Confused and stressed.

I leave two water bowls out. One stainless with ice cube which they love and a glass bowl with just water. I refill them daily. They drink a lot and sometimes play with their water.

I purchased a stainless steel fountain for the outdoor enclosure and I saw Raiden drink from that once -- right after I put it out. I think that was curiosity more than anything else. When I had him at the vet a few weeks ago, he was not dehydrated at all, so the canned food must be doing the trick for him. I weighed him this morning and he was still 12.4 pounds.

He ended up having a UTI and also has a slight inflamed bladder that he will live with. I've switched to feeding him two cans of wet food a day along with his dry food which he eats all day. Also have added a second litter box and thoroughly cleaned up and covered the areas he had accidents. He seems to be doing better.

It's funny how important their litter boxes are. I did a full change out of both boxes and the litter Gennie last night. They have been in their boxes an unusually frequent amount of time ever since. Plus I swear they have been extra affectionate towards me and are in the house with me rather than playing out on the patio. Normally I just scoop 3-4 times a day, but I guess fresh litter is extra fun.

Diesel follows me and jumps in every box after I clean it. :rolleyes:

sometimes he pees but sometimes he just digs around and hops out. When we do a full litter change on a box that's usually the preferred box for a few hours and everyone uses it even if all the others are nice and clean.

I time the complete cleaning of the litter box to right after Raiden uses it, so I know he won't have to use it again within the next 15 minutes. He has one litter box in the house and one in his enclosure (which he never uses). It's amazing how clean these little munchkins want their boxes. The Litter Genie is the BEST invention ever. It will usually hold two weeks of waste in it. I'm just amazed when I take the bag out just how much waste Raiden has!!! It's heavy! But at least it contains the odor and is a whole lot easier to change out than the litter box.

I really do not think this is something that requires ‘punishing’. It is not something he is doing on purpose. There must be an issue here.

How long have you had him for? Do you have any other cats or pets? Have you recently moved? Changed anything around? How many litter boxes does he have?

To me it sounds like there is an underlying problem here. This is not normal behaviour so definitely do not ‘punish’ him for it.

If everything is normal, he isn’t stressed at all… then a visit to the vet is your best option.

Also, I read you are feeding him mostly dry food? I highly recommend changing that up. Feed him more wet food, or raw food. I feed mine a raw diet, with access to a small amount of high quality dry food during the day and they love it. It will definitely help soften his poos to help him go.

Whenever I read about litter box issues where the box is cleaned very frequently, I advise spacing out the cleanings more. Cats are ruled by scent, and the modern litters do such a good job of masking oder that sometimes they can totally wipe out the territorial aspect of using a litter box.

My cats line up and wait for me to clean their boxes when I come home from work. Then they go in them!

Raiden does not like a dirty litter box. I will spot him just standing there and I'll know he used it previously and I need to clean it out so he can go again.

We tend to just clean them out every morning before work and it seems to be fine. They LOVEEEE inspecting. I was raking the litter and Iso thought it was a game and started flicking litter at me.

I only want a cat IN the litter box to do its business and not play around in it. LOL. Raiden already spreads the litter all over the floor as it is an open litter box. He only does it for his poop since he basically digs to the bottom of the box and then has to cover it all up from the huge pile of litter and it just goes over the box.

I need to scoop out magic litter tray every times he even does a small wee, he is so fussy he will just hang on and complain very loudly until I have done it

I pass by Raiden's litter box several times a day so I check it as I go past it! Since he marks a lot on our walks, he doesn't use the box very much. He will hold his pee and cry and cry because he has to go and wants to use it on the bushes outside. If I make him wait too long, he will use the litter box but only pee a small amount to save the rest for the walk.
