The 5% that you say he is peeing outside the litter box seems to still be a LOT! How much longer until his appointment? With my vet, you just walk in with your pet and are seen by a vet. You don't need an appointment. Thankfully, Raiden's vet is 2 miles down the road and open 6 days a week. If Raiden started this, he would be down there in 5 minutes to be checked out.

Steph, I feel for you, I really do! Have you tried the aluminum foil on the couch? I think I might also tip the couch over and just sit on the floor for a few nights and see how that goes. Seriously, the couch is the problem!

Have you checked to see if Jackson Galaxy has any Spirit Essences that may help the situation, rather than medicate Finn? Check out http://www.spiritessences.com and see. There is just something about the location of your sofa and futon. I know you want this problem solved ASAP. Another week means another 3 to 4 accidents -- let's call them accidents. I would definitely remove the futon mattress every single night. It's a whole lot better than Finn peeing on there. I really hope your vet may have some suggestions for you.

Steph, please know that many herbs that humans can tolerate are toxic to cats. So be super careful! I'm really at a loss here. I've watched so many episodes of My Cat From Hell and many of them deal with a cat not using the litter box, but I'm baffled by this. Usually, there is something ..... a medical condition, stress, change in environment, other cats in the area, new baby, something ... that you can point at and say "that's the problem." I don't know if a cat behaviorist would be able to help you out. I know you came here looking for answers. You may need to Google and see what others have tried. It's super frustrating, I know. I'm guessing Finn is not an early generation bengal. And Finn is your only kitty, right? There are no dogs in the household? Something has triggered this because cats prefer using their litter box. I know that vet appointment can't come soon enough and I really hope the vet gives you ample time to go over everything with this situation.

How does Finn get along with Aleya? Are they best buddies? Does she uses the litter box fine? Usually these things happen in a multi-cat household so I'm happy to know (or be reminded) you have the other kitty.

I'm guessing Finn may be jealous that he does not have access to the entire house and Aleya does! Since they do not seem to be the best buddies, Aleya could be the problem. Does she get more attention than Finn? Do you play with them both together in the same room? There are some articles online about jealousy in cats. I'm sure it can happen. You may need to observe Finn and Aleya together and see what is going on there. By now, there should be no hissing or growling when they are together. If it's Finn doing the hissing and growling, he is not happy!

We had this problem with one of our bengals. Finally doused the couch heavily with an enzyme cleaner (Anti Icky Poo) - if you do that, make sure to put something waterproof under the couch to protect your floors. Then we put a couple scat mats on the couch for a few months to keep her off. We had to do this whole routine a few times actually before she finally got the message.
