Neytiri Catches Her First Mouse!

An odd thing happened the other day. All three cats ran out into the garage when I opened the door (a usual occurrence) and messed around in there for awhile. I just kept the door to the house open as usual, letting them come back in when they are "done", which usually is between 5 and 10min or so.

Sometime later, Neytiri and Serafina were inside, staring transfixed at the vacuum cleaner. Huh? What is THAT all about? Then suddenly a mouse (maybe 2 inches long) darted out from under the vacuum, and Neytiri, lightning quick, pounced on it, and scooped it up in her mouth. Serafina was watching with great interest, but didn't seem compelled to do anything about it like Neytiri did. Then when I reacted with "Hey, wait! Come here, let me see that! Hold on!, No! Come back" she ran the other direction with her catch. I chased her all over the house, she darted under chairs and tables, running out the other side, avoiding me, until I finally cornering her, and got the mouse away from her. She sure didn't want to give it up!

Good girl for catching it. She didn't want to give up her prize dad!

When I was a kid we had a Persian that was a retired show cat. We had a mouse in the house so my parents thought "oh the cat will catch it". The mouse ran under the cat and the cat ran back into the bedroom :lol:

Thankfully, last winter, Raiden was off his mouse kick! The winter before, they were coming into his enclosure a lot (we hang bird feeders outside his enclosure and some of the seed falls into the enclosure -- so we moved the feeder). At least once a week, Raiden brought a mouse in -- in the middle of the night. Most were alive. Some were dead! He brought in a baby squirrel once and I was the one that had to get it back outside. I won't deal with a mouse -- and have had to wait until hubby got home from work so he could chase it and find it. There was one mouse we never could locate.

Wow, this is one of my fears. I live on a lake and I have seen "mice" outside the enclosure on my roof! I am fearful that one will get inside the house and the cats will do exactly what they do to all the lizards. I keep thinking, that's okay the cats will take care of it. But I know I will screaming my head off if it happens.

Raiden's deal was he'd bring the mouse in at 2 a.m. while we were sleeping, let it go, chase it around the bedroom. I'd make my husband get up and find the broom and beat the poor thing to death (the mouse, not Raiden. LOL). I was under the covers up to my neck hoping Raiden didn't catch it and bring it up to me. Thankfully, he always dropped it on the floor. He had this special cry he did.that seemed to let me know "oh great, another mouse."
