So, our bengal Mira just recently started peeing in our bed...
Before she sometimes peed in our clothes if they were lying on the floor or inside of our closet.
We have now been very careful to close the closetdoor and not let clothing lying around.
She has now started to pee in the bed instead.. This has happened a couple of times now, and only happens in the middle of the night.

Mira has access to the litterbox at night, it is literally right outside the bedroom door:

The litterbox is always clean - so that's not the problem..
Today we are going to change the litter and also put an extra litterbox inside the bedroom, to see if this may help..

Do any of you have any advice on how to make this stop? We really need advice, as this can not continue any longer..

(excuse my bad English  )

Is this a new problem? First thing to always rule out is medical. It seems to be a common thing for Bengals to like to go on piles of clothing, bedding etc and in closets, maybe she is telling you she wants a covered box??? I can see in your photo you have a kind of shelf/lip round the litter box which makes it smaller, maybe take that off and yes definitely put a box in the bedroom.

Get the biggest litter box you can find. Pet shops sometimes don't stock very big ones (in England anyway) I always have to buy mine online. When you say she pees on the bed in the middle of the night, is it your bed......are you in it? When I had a cat with pee problems, we solved it with multiple covered huge litter boxes upstairs and downstairs. I also knew he peed twice a day, morning and evening so put him in his litter box at those times and praised him. After a while I just put him near his box and he went in himself, then he took himself in the end as you don't want him relying on you all the time!

There are a couple of very recent posts dealing with peeing bengals. They are packed full of good advice from experienced people and cover all sorts of possible reasons.....medical, territorial, distress, habit etc. It's a game (not much fun for you though) of ruling out each possible issue and then seeing if it continues or improves. Obviously you need to clean the area with an enzymatic cleaner so the cat cannot smell the area and be attracted to return. Also online there is a website of a Bengal called Lucy - susansgardenpatch.com - go to the left menu and click litter problems. She pretty much covers it all. Good luck

I guess it's just trying stuff out. As for the peeing in the bed while you are in it I am sure there is someone on this forum who could tell you what is going on in her furry little head. Maybe she is marking you as her own?? Bless them, these bengals can be trying! Hope it gets sorted out and soon. She is so gorgeous.

Melissa gave you excellent advice. I agree with the type of litter box. The box needs to be large enough for the kitty. And since she uses an open litter box, I don't know that I would worry about getting a covered one. Cats normally like using a box that is in a more remote area with some privacy. But at night, that shouldn't be a problem. It's odd that this only happens at night. Nobody likes having a box in their bedroom, but if you think it will help, I'd put one there -- and keep the box in the hallway. You don't want to be moving litter boxes around as that will confuse the cat.

It's odd that a cat will sleep where they've peed! Many times the problem stems from territorial issues with another cat. That cat can be inside or outside your home. Do you maybe have other cats prowling outside your bedroom area at night? You're going to have to be more observant over the situation in order to solve it. There is something definitely going on during the night because she uses the litter box during the day with no problem.

As you will discover when reading about this ... it's the worst thing in the world to have going on with a cat. My Cat From Hell has many episodes that deal with this -- including one recently where the cat was peeing on the woman's head at night. Read up and watch all you can and see what works for you. Good luck.

I just replied to this and it disappeared!

It is very odd it is only at night. Is she waking up properly, weeing on the bed and then settling down again? Or is she not waking up and properly recognising the need to urinate? I only ask as we had this once with Hendrix, we were fussing him on our bed (fortunately on some of Jon's clothes) and he was purring away and surprised everyone (including himself) by urinating. We assume he was very relaxed and didn't realise he needed the litter box!

I would definitely get her checked out by the vet and then refer to the website Melissa has directed you to and work through that. I would also change the sleeping arrangements until it is resolved and allocate her a room with a litter box, bed and food/water etc and see if it still happens during the night. Preferably somewhere easy to clean just in case still she doesn't use the litter box! Our two always slept in the kitchen/conservatory area until they were over a year old and we had no issues although she may not like the change! They pretty much have the run of the house now, but I close our bedroom door unless they have already settled in there, as they always get up and disturb me otherwise, and I need my sleep!

I think if you read up on this -- the web is full of this type of behavior problem -- you will find the answer. It doesn't sound as if she would be too lazy to get up and use the litter box. How soon before she is due to see a vet? If it's a ways off, I might take her in just to have things checked out to rule out anything medical. My sister was a night bed wetter her entire life. Can't tell you how many mattresses she went through. Doctors could not find anything wrong with her. It just seemed, she was in such a deep sleep and when she had to go, she just went. I'd still be concerned about other cats in the area at night. You may not see or smell them, but perhaps your kitty can.

I took mira to the vet and she told me that it could be an urinary tract infection, because of her symptoms and the blood test results.
Mira is now on antibiotics - we hope that this will solve the problem

Good for you!!! Hopefully, this will solve the problem. Just make sure you have all the areas cleaned with an enzyme cleaner to remove the odor or your little one may head back there again. Keep us posted.
