Hey guys

So i have had my bengal Daytona, for almost 2 years now and when he first came into the house he got along with my domestic mix cat (Spike) pretty well.

For the most part these two get along well, they sleep together, eat together and will even clean each other. They genuinely get along but every now and then and at more frequent pace lately they are getting into fights. Daytona will pin Spike down and Spike will scream until we come running.

Im trying to figure out why this is happening and how to stop it. Has anyone else had these problems and have u found something to prevent it from happening.

Ive already had to take Spike to the vet once because he got an abcess from what the vet assumed was a bite or scratch. Im hoping to prevent this again and i refuse to give one of them up because they are both very sweet boys most the time.

Also both males are desexed and have been before they even met each other. Also both are inside cats but occasionally they get out because someone doesnt close the door properly and that will cause a day of fights between each other.

Daytona seems to be the instigator all the time and is just becoming more of a bully and i really just want it to stop. I understand that cats fight but ive never dealt with this situation before.

Cats are territorial (especially bengals) and require their own space in a home. Since these "fights" have become more frequent, has anything changed in the household? You'll need to make sure Spike has an escape route from every situation. But, the aggression needs to stop. Feliway may help. Cat-ifying your home may be the key. Watch some episodes from My Cat From Hell on the Animal Planet website. Jackson has some great suggestions. There are countless episodes where cats were delegated to separate rooms because they can't get along and that is changed with some modifications. If you're willing to invest the time and what it takes to satisfy Daytona, everything should be good. Good luck!

I have two sisters that are about 11 months old. They play and are for the most part loving towards each other. They do wrestle and it can get out of hand with the smaller one calling out. I step in and stop them but they go right back to it. It can look quite aggressive but the smaller one keeps it going rather than run away so I guess they are playing. They go through phases with each other. If one gets locked in the laundry room or a closet, the other one stands outside the door and waits for me to let her back in. One is very territorial so I know the wrestling is usually about winning privileges.

Food for thought...

Bengals do play harder than DSH cats from my experience. Since your two get along most of the time, watch their interactions with each other. In our multi cat household we work on keeping each cat feeling secure and confident in each space. We've recently had to shift some catification around where it was creating some corning situations that reinforced the negative interaction between two of ours.

Our tortie isn't always feeling confident as she moves into adulthood (vet told us torties are known for their moodiness). Since she's observsble about the things that irritate her, her body language sets our bengal off to give her more attention than she'd like. Her subtle signs are scanning the room, not being fully relaxed in posture, or startling over noises. The more obvious signs are the locked eyes, tentative body language, or vocal cue. When this happens, our bengal can treat her like pray if we aren't consistent in our training. Everything we do now since the catification shuffle is to boost her confidence in areas that she hasn't felt confident or has triggered an attach. Play, treats and pettings are our positive reinforces. The more confident she grows the less our bengal notices her as someone to chase and play with because she's not sending the signals. As for our bengal, he has signs he's locking in on her so we've been working with him to divert attention and reward ignoring her.

Pay attention to where the events happen. What leads up to it becoming a fight. Watch both their body language for the bigger story.

My two cats rarely have those rough fighting sessions any longer. Maybe because they are maturing, but I keep catifying my house. I have 4 cat towers, two of which are in my bedroom along with a cat wheel, wall mounted cat pole and soon a couple of wall mounted cat clouds. It looks like a bit of a circus in there, but it's a really large room and visitors don't have to see all of it. Best of all the time we spend there is full of happiness and fun for the cats. They no longer have to fight over territory, they each have their own turf.

In multi-cat households, it's sad if you have to separate the cats when all you have to do is make space for each cat. Multiple cat trees or climbing shelves are a must. The more catification you do, the better things will be. Simple as that.
