I suggest to help her to expand her "comfort zone" little by little.

For example if you put her food under the bed....and u know she's eating.....move it lil bit further...do it step by step until she's eating far away to the bed......
I suggest You to leave all the doors opened during the night so with the quiet and when everyone is sleeping she can explore all the enviroment as she likes.....

Hello everyone. I just wanted to update you on Sybille's progress.

It's day eight today. Sybille is still under the bed, but at night (when alone) she is coming out and sleeping on my chair and in a basket on the bed. She's gaining in confidence, I feel. She's eating quite close to me, blinking a lot and also washing, stretching, moving around and sleeping in front of me. I hope these signs mean she is more relaxed.

Today, after really enjoying her food, Sybille washed, came out and jumped onto the bed. Not for long, but I felt proud of her. I've not tried to pet her yet, as she's only got close enough in the last two days and I feel I should let her approach me.

Thank you again for all your advice earlier on. Patience, like you all said, is the key.

That sounds like really good progress Sara, I'm impressed by your perseverance and attitude about this. Keep it up! I think you will get a big reward in the end when you finally make "best friends" with your kitty.

Yesterday and this morning I was rewarded with a sniff of my hand! I'm so pleased. A few tears were produced (me not Sybille!).

Sybille is still wary but when she is eating she is getting very, very close. She is still nervous of toys although yesterday, she did lift a paw at a feather toy! She's still basically under the bed when I am in the room, but she is now resting in the gaps between the wall and the bed now, so not fully covered... And she is also slower to leap away when I enter the room.

Sara, I'm so happy to read your updates and see that things are improving. I know it's just a little bit at a time, but you will see in a month's time how far your little gal has come along. She's dictating that things need to move slowly. She has to learn how to trust you -- and I can see that she is slowly getting that trust. Continue doing what you are doing -- letting her go at her own pace. She is at least coming out from under the bed and sleeping in front of you is a huge change for her. You are doing such a great job here. You will be rewarded with plenty of her love.

Hello every one...

It's Day 13 since Sybille joined us ... she has slowly been getting braver and venturing out a little from under the bed while I'm in the room. So, I was delighted when just about half an hour ago, she climbed up on to the bed and sat in her basket... she watched me for a while - eyes wide as saucers. I reassured her but kept working at the computer, with just a few little peeks at her. She is now curled up and fast asleep in the basket. Such a sweet sight and I am so glad she is starting to feel content...

She has climbed on to the bed before, but thought better of it and returned to her under the bed sanctuary.

I still haven't been able to stroke her... she flinches and retreats.... so I am going to leave that for a while and concentrate on keeping her happy, confident and feeling safe in my company, out in the 'open'...

It's now day 20, so I thought I would share an update. Sybille is still in the safe room but she is progressing. Most of the time she is now out from under the bed and is darting off under there less frequently. Under the influence of Catnip, I have been able to stroke and pet her - which she seems to enjoy... it was so lovely to hear her purr.

She will now eat treats out of my hand and loves to play - getting bolder every day. And today, she actually miaowed to be stroked, without Catnip.

I'm now leaving the door slightly open so she can explore further when she is ready. So far she has popped her head around the door but not ventured out. She is also still wary of my husband and son, but slowly getting used to them. It's not possible for them to spend as much time with Sybille as I can.
