Re-homed a Bengal and she won't eat

I came back to this thread earlier today and was just going to post asking how you were getting on.

It sounds like things are progressing nicely. Well done on your patient work to bring her out of her shell and give her a loving home.

Hello again... it's day 29 now! Earlier I reported that Sybille seemed more confident - playing, accepting strokes and tickles and not running for cover so frequently. Because of this, I opened the door to her safe room, which opens onto a landing with one other room and then a small flight of stairs to another landing... since I've done this she has seemed a little settled and is eating less, although she still plays and will accept strokes etc. She has ventured out onto the landing a few times, but runs back in...

I imagine, it's all down to patience again and letting her move out of her room into the rest of the house at her own time? And do you think it is OK to leave the door open 24/7?

Obviously your little girl is still getting her confidence in searching out new places that are available to her. Leave the door open only occasionally. Or, go down to the landing and call her over to you. You can help her with this. She needs to know she is safe down there. She's come so far in just a month! Give her another couple of months and I think she will be there. You've been so patient with her and it's paid off. Good job!

Hello again...

Thought I'd pop up another little Sybille update.... well, now she is down the first flight of stairs where there are two bedrooms... she's in and out of these - playing and exploring.... she no longer sleeps in her safe room but on the bed with me... she decided this...

Sybille is also less wary of my husband and son... and will play with them and sniff them... she still runs for cover a lot but comes out pretty much straight away... just her default action, I guess...

She has approached the next flight of stairs but is very tentative... these stairs go to the living room and kitchen etc, which I imagine smell quite different... I've moved back into my office down there too.... it's just near the stairs, so I call her often and eventually I hope she will come down to explore here...

She's really quite affectionate when she wants to be now and seems to come and find us when we are in the rooms upstairs... she's eating well, so I think it is just waiting for her to take the next steps down the stairs when she is ready... we'll be waiting!

Thank you again for all your support - it seems such a long time ago that Sybille arrived here - so petrified.... she still has a way to go but I admire her bravery so far and remind myself how her life changed so very much...

You have done so well with your girl, I love reading your updates and hearing how she is coming out of her shell. It is definitely going to be worth the patience and effort you have put in and she will be a very happy girl with you all. You are both doing brilliantly!

Of course, nobody has thought to tell you that once Sybille has realised SHE is the boss, that you will be run ragged, and end up wishing you had never coaxed her out!
It is a wonderful life, being the servant of a fussy, gobby, demanding ball of fur, though...
