Hi every1. I'm new to the forum, I have had a lot of useful information from here recently. A few days ago my boyfriend and I bought out first bengal. Well reserved. We are picking her up in May. It's a very exciting time. Today threw a spanner in the works as we discovered that we may have a dog in the household. My parents have my dog I bought as a child living with them but they want us to have it in our new home. (New home allows pets hence the bengal). We had not anticipated having the dog. I love my dog to pieces but she is not very good with other pets and is still quite energetic for an 8 year old. I feel she would get on with a cat better than a dog but still anxious about it.
Does anyone have any tips to introduce the 2 of them? Has anyone had a similar issue? I have been researching online how to slowly introduce them but if anyone has any first hand experience or advice that would be very helpful. My dog is a Yorkshire terrier btw. I hope the two of them can get along.
My beautiful little bengal is only a week old and I've fallen in love with her already. So excited for May!

I think a lot of dogs are OK with cats, but it does depend on the dog, mine are fine with my daughters older dog (collie X)
Kittens should be fine it just depends if your dog can be calm enough to start with.

Maybe start preparing in advance before the lo arrives.

Someone told me that a stairgate (like a baby gate) on the bottom of the stairs is a good idea as it gives the kitten a chance to get away without the dog chasing after her.

Also keeping the dog on a lead when you start to do any face to face introductions.

Aww, beautiful little bengal! It seems bengals get along better with dogs than cats. The biggest problem is going to the the size difference until your bengal gets full grown. Your dog will immediately be curious about the cat and run up to it and probably scare your little one to death! UNLESS ... the breeder has a dog as well. Kittens who are brought up with dogs may not mind another dog. You'll have to watch their interaction very carefully, especially because your cat will have claws and sharp teeth and can injure your dog. Over time, they should get along and sleep together. Just check out YouTube for all the cute cat/dog videos and hope for the best when your little one arrives. I really don't think you will have much to worry about. You will need a cat tree or two so your kitten can escape to the sky. And make sure there always an escape route and one can't corner the other. If you catify your house, your baby will be able to get away from your dog when they've had enough of the dog. I think you may be worrying too much. You've got quite a bit of time before your little one arrive.

I have a 6 year old patterdale terrier Lola and she is very much a terrier!!!
2 years ago I re homed a 6 year old Bengal Coco - with great trepidation I might add - and contingency plans in case things did not work out.
I used a stair gate so the cat had a getaway to place of safety and Lola had no access to the room. I kept this in place for 6 months then we moved house......
In our new house I set up the gate system again just in case.
Anyway the upshot of all this is that Lola and Coco are friends - they play chase - and both will sleep on our bed!!! To get to this point took 18 months but soo worth it!
I use the gate if we have visitors - dogs or children - for peace of mind. Our friends love seeing the two of them playing and communicating! Coco has a special meow when she greets Lola and will even present her with rabbits or voles she has caught and so lovingly brought home

Always nice to read success stories. Bengals and dogs can get along.
