Chewing

Hi there. My 6yr old male Bengal chews his hard baked cardboard scratch pads to bits. Chews, twists his head and spits it on the floor! Do you think it's just his natural instinct to chew or he is lacking something food wise ......vitamins etc. He does not eat the cardboard.

I wouldn't worry too much - my two are always ripping up boxes, but they don't eat it either. I think they just like destroying things and cardboard must just feel nice to them to chew and shred to pieces!

I love Oscar's sleeping position. My cats sleep like that too, so cute.

My naughty 5 year old bengal " Trigger" does exactly the same. Chew, spit, chew spit.....So funny to watch ! He does exactly the same to plants too. He can't walk past a plant without picking at it. He is a little rotter ! :rolleyes:

Oh the cutie pie! Raiden will also chew cardboard and spit it out! Sounds like it's a natural thing for them.

Uh oh. I saw one of my cats gnawing on the corner of my night stand this morning! I put something on top of the corner and she pushed it aside and resumed gnawing while staring right at me! I felt the edge and the wood is all dug up but I think today was the first time she did this. I think she is retaliating because her sister slept on the bed next to me last night and that is her territory. I guess I will put a cloth cover over the end table and hope she stops acting out this way. It's a shame because the night stand was like new.

Clare, I hope that is the reason. I hate to think that it was resentment fueled. She is 9 months old. Is that about the age they get their adult teeth? I had no idea they got adult teeth!

When I took jagger to the vet to be microchipped at about 7 months old they gave him a quick health check and said his gums were quite red and that his adult teeth were coming through. It was news to me too - but explained why Hendrix had started chewing the furniture! It was only Hendrix with a taste for that though thank goodness.

I don't know about the chewing but love his sleeping pose.

My Dexter sleeps like that too all the time. I am sure it's a Bengal thing as I've never seen any of my other cats sleep like this so often. But why? lol!

There must be quite a large variation in the age at which kittens get their adult teeth. When we got Quasar, at 13 weeks, he already had his adult teeth.

Actually just remembered that we took Dexter to the vet about something else when he was about 7 months and I just mentioned that he had been pawing at his mouth.

She looked at his gums and said they were inflamed and he was teething.

I was surprised at this as I would have thought that would have happened much earlier (baby teeth) so maybe he was getting his adult teeth. I didn't know either that they got adult teeth.

Confused lol.

Diesel was getting his adult teeth at about 7 months old as well. I found a few of his tiny little baby teeth, but his poor gums were red and sore and he would paw at his mouth. He had one tooth get stuck in the roof of his mouth and I had to pull it out.

Babbage loves chewing cardboard - I made a little cardboard fort for him to play in, but he took more enjoyment from taking it apart - one bite at a time.

Oh wow it looks like termites! Good thing he had the cardboard to chew!

The nightstand was the first destructive chewing I noticed to date with Grace. I fed her some treats last night and boy are her teeth sharp.
