I need some suggestions on how to help my bengals get along. We have a 13 week old male bengal. We've had him for 4 weeks now. He's grown very close to us and we really love him. We adopted a 3 year old female bengal. She is not spayed and I believe she's had one litter of kittens. We've slowly been introducing them, but Maxwell, my boy, does not like her at all. He gets very upset and hissing and yelling when she comes anywhere near him. She doesn't get upset or yell at him. I think she's just curious. She just walks slowly to him. No sudden movements. After we've separated them and taken Maxwell into another room it takes at least 15 minutes for him to call down. Even if it's just he and I. What can I do to help him be more comfortable and not so upset?

Will she be spayed soon?

Get your female fixed ASAP! Brian offers superb advice on this forum. He's an expert when it comes to multiple cats getting along. It takes time and lots of patience. I just went through a post that started off, "My two bengals won't get along." And the final post was pictures of the two of them laying next to each other and are now best buddies. So, it can and will work. You've got to take baby steps and be patient.

Thank you for the help and suggestions! They are doing much better. My kitten, Maxwell, is still a little nervous, but doing tons better. We give them a little interaction each day as well as a treat when he's near her and that has helped so much! He calms right down. Sophie, our new girl, is nervous of us still. We're starting to wonder if she was abused or if she just got in a fight with the dog she used to live with. She is missing a tooth and seems to have some tender spots on her body. She loves being pet, but is always nervous when we go to pet her. We'll be taking her into the vet soon to get a check up. We've had her for almost a week now.

Whoa if you have only had her a week it was really too early to introduce them. You should have waited a week MINIMUM before introducing two cats, preferably two weeks. It will take time for them to get to know one another. If your new kitty is showing signs of neglect or abuse I would have her checked ASAP and have her scheduled for a spay when you are there. Male and female cats will spray and have unwanted behavior if left intact. You boy will also be coming to the age of maturity or at least reproducing before too long. Better to get it done now before you end up with unwanted kittens with health problems. I just wanted to add too that it will take her a few weeks to come around and trust you. Food and play will be your best tools!

Didnt mean to quote your whole post, just the part where you felt you were being criticised. Obviously no one knows your situation. I think bkilgore was just trying to inform you and any one else that may come across this post looking for info/advice the best thing for your kitten, i understand it is not nice being told you may have done something wrong but it is rather rash to say you wont be using this site anymore. I feel perseverance is going to be your best option, and i hope your problem soon becomes better.

Wow that's crazy I did not mean to offend you in any way but you have to understand there is a HUGE difference in behavior and personality between an intact cat and a spayed/neutered cat. I have NO IDEA what you know. For all I know you know nothing about cats and how they reproduce or that there is a procedure to solve the problem. A lot of ill educated people don't believe in spay neuter because it "changes" their pet. A lot of people don't know that leaving them intact causes unwanted behavior. A lot of people do not know a male can reproduce pretty early in some cases. All I was doing was informing you and telling you how to HELP your cats! If you don't have enough space to keep them separate for a few days , you really should have thought harder about bringing in another cat, especially an adult INTACT cat!
