We have an 9 month old F1 who eats everything. It started with toys...we cannot buy her cat toys; they are demolished quickly. But this issue has turned scary. She will eat an entire sock; she will eat fabric cords, stuffing, etc. Tonight, we are afraid that she has eaten something else because she has not eaten any food all day and it is 8pm here. We know to keep everything up, but before you know it, she has started on something else. She tries to eat our bathroom furry throw rugs. Have you ever heard of this?

It's called pica. You might want to google it and read up on this. You know it can be very dangerous to a cat and many have had surgery to remove items that cannot go through their system. It's not just keeping everything UP. Cats can climb and they can get to where they want to go quite easily. You've got to eliminate ANYTHING and EVERYTHING that may entice your cat. A trip to the vet should be in order if your cat has not eaten and you think the cat has ingested something. I don't know if there are medications that can be given. My Raiden loves to lick plastic bags. He doesn't eat them ... just licks them, so I have to keep them closed away behind a door.

It is quite common in Early Generation cats, I would guess it is due to the stress such cats are under in the domestic environment.
Was she hand reared? When was she weaned?

You are right to be very concerned as eating non-edible material can result in intestinal blockages and even death if left untreated.
Vet ASAP I would suggest to exclude any chance of her being seriously ill.

I would suggest a good cat behaviourist for the pica, as it is a very complicated issue and a potentially deadly one and is IMO outwith the scope of the forum.
I would choose a behaviourist who is used to dealing with and understands wild cat hybrids.

We had a member with an f1 that also had pica. From my understanding she did eventually get it to a manageable state but it took help from a vet to get it under control. I honestly don't think it's something that can be controlled with just behavior modification. My advice is to see a vet IMMEDIATELY as in RIGHT NOW!

When I first got my kittens they put everything in sight into their mouths and ate it. They even ripped open a pillow and ate some of the stuffing! How can that be enjoyable? Thank goodness the seem to have grown out of it for the most part, except for lizards. They still love torturing them.

Jackson just did a show with a cat who had this problem. It was quite easy to manage it with behavior modification actually. You'll want to put out things that are safe for the cat to eat, like those grass plants that cats chew on. Also, lots of play time to release some of the nervous energy and distract the cat from wanting to chew on everything. The cat on the show did have to be put on medication as well. He had separation anxiety, so Jackson had the couple change up their routine before leaving the house. Oh and Jackson even got them a Beta fish that the cat could watch - distracting him from eating things around the house.

I would highly recommend you try to watch that episode. He had a lot of good and helpful information about how to deal with a cat with Pica.
