It's been ages since I have posted, but I am desperate and worried for my female cats Tyra and Skyla.
My male neutered 17 mth old cat Freddie who is the son of Tyra and nephew of Skyla, is constantly attacking the girls. The girls only have to look at him asleep and they growl hiss n spit at him. They can't stand to be in the same room as him. At first I felt sorry for him. And felt they we being unfair to him as he sometimes only has to walk passed them. But after observing their behaviours it seems that Freddie takes every opportunity to attack them. T he girls have started to get so anxious they have taken to growling and hissing at the whole family.
Overall the cats have only started this behaviour within the last 3 months and has gradually gotten worse. The cats have free run of the house during the day, and on a night they are locked away in the kitchen (due to Skyla's Incessant need to wee everywhere if we let her roam the house on a night) but we leave the window open so they can come and go as they please (yes we let them out) Skyla is tiny and is very active and a skilled hunter, and often come come with scratches Tyra is a home bird and loves to sleep all day. Freddie is massive and acts very much like a dog, he loves to spend time with the family and loves to be loved.
The cats have lots of attention as I study from home all day., so it's not that.
I am so worried the girls will get fed up of him and run away.
Is this Freddie's problem or the girls? And what should I do???

You probably need to keep them apart and then work on very slowly re-introducing them, but even then, make sure that they have their own "space" (means places to sleep,especially vertical space, litterbox, food and water dishes etc). I'm betting that the peeing problem is also related to this, which means if you solve one you will probably solve both. If you feel like you are in over your head, you might want to contact a cat behaviorist, otherwise there are some good books on the topic.

I'd suggest you check out Spirit Essences which are holistic remedies for various animal conditions. They aren't cheap, but you use very little of them. This is a Freddie problem, I'm afraid. He's bullying your girls. And, Separating them doesn't solve what's really behind the problem. There is something going on with Freddie. A cat behaviorist might be able to help you out and you can always use a search engine to see what other people are doing. This is so unfair to your girls. They aren't happy. I'd definitely try a holistic approach and see if that works for you. Good luck.

i think it is to do with dominance and space issue .
The boy will only get bigger and will rneed more and more territories .

Girls may not accept that, so will hiss and stress themselves.

You said this only started three months ago. Did anything change at that time? Anything out of the ordinary at all that might have been the start?

Have they always been kept in the kitchen at night? Or is this a recent thing. I only ask as if you are leaving a window open for them then that leaves just one entrance / exit for them. That makes it very easy for one cat to bully another, is there any possibility of adding another way in and out? A cat flap as well as the window perhaps. It just seems that if they want to be inside in the warm then all three will have to be a a much smaller space during the night. I imagine that during the day they would spread out, some inside some out or in different rooms of the house. It might be difficult for them to suddenly have to share the space?

I have a similar problem, i have two boys, one girl, Max hates Indy. I have spoken to cat behaviourists several times.

One piece of advice they all gave was that you must make sure they all have access to food, water litter trays easily and without being threatened. Which means having several of each around the house so there is no competition.

Do you have litter trays? My boys go out now (Sky can't as she is blind) but I still have a litter tray in almost every room, so they can always get to one. This does seem to have helped.

I did also try the Spirit essences, they were expensive, especially as they had to come from the US, and I didn't find they worked for me. You could try Feliway plugins, although they did help a bit, Max liked to pee on them so they didn't work for me either.
