My bengals name is Rex and he is now 1 1/2 and he was neutered at 6 months. He's never had any accidents since we've had him but yesterday he peed on my boyfriends and my bed. We cleaned and sprayed some cleaner. We did not think this would happen again because he never pees any where out side his litter box but he peed again today. I don't want this to be a reoccurring thing and I'm not really sure what the cause maybe. It looks like he also peeing on just my blanket. I need help on understanding this and maybe some help on how to keep this from happening again. Thank you.

Cats who have continuously used their litter box and then stop are trying to tell you something is wrong. The first thing to do is take Rex to the vet and have him checked out for a urinary tract infection or maybe crystals in the urine. Or it could be some other medical issue. If the vet gives Rex a clean bill of health, then it's probably stress related (according to Jackson Galaxy). Has anything changed in Rex's environment? Has a new cat moved into the neighborhood that Rex can sense, but you can't. You said he peed on your boyfriend. Was your boyfriend in bed? I'm trying to figure out if it's the bed only and your boyfriend got in the way.

If everything checks out at the vet and you can't figure out what has changed in your environment, then my suggestion is to get a second litter box and put it in the bedroom. It's not the best place, but perhaps Rex can't get to his other litter box in time and is unable to hold his urine until he can. It's easy for cats to have an accident now and then, but if this is occurring daily, then you've simply got to figure out the reason behind it and once that's fixed, he should be back to normal again. Hi sherry, thank you very much for your reply. He has not peed on my bf. He'll pee in the bed when no ones in it but he'll pee on my blanket. We did have a litter box in our room and took it out recently as well as changed the little. That may be what's going on. We'll take him to the vet though and we're going to get his old litter again.

I'm no expert, so this is purely just an educated guess. I would imagine Rex is simply a little confused, one day he has a litter box in your room, and so he has an association with the two in his mind. The next day it's gone, but (maybe) the scent of the litter box is still there, along with the association (that room = litter box room) but it's not there when needed.

The first thing I'd try, is replace the litter box back in the room. I'd also get another cheap one, to put where you want to designate his eventual, final litter box location. Then work on training him to use the final destination box as much as you can, with the original box in the original room, just in case, for accidents. This way you can wean his association from one room to another gradually.

I'd also stick to the litter he 'knows' until he's successfully used to the new location of his litter box.

I'm hoping it's something this simple, and not that Rex has some kind of infection, maybe a vets advice would be worth it, but be sure to include the info that you changed the litter box location, and litter used, as their advice may be more relevant the more details they have to work with.

I think you have answered the problem yourself.....don't change the litter and don't remove the box - that will get them pissed (pun intended)

You may have an issue with him stopping peeing now he has started, so it might be an idea to purchase some Cat attract litter to place in with his regular litter and also you might need to get a larger tray - its often important to increase the size of the trays as they grow also.

You will need to clean the duvet as well as covers (or just replace the bedding completely)
