Hi my name is Taylor, and my bengal's name is Daytona. My parents are getting really mad at Daytona, they say if he keeps peeing they will get rid of him. And I love him dearly! I can't lose him he's just... not the same to others. We have tried everything it feels from putting the litter box where he was peeing, he pees in another spot, put his food dish where he pee'ed, fines another. This is are first bengal to. I don't know if its cause if he doesn't get his way or what. Pretty much if he doesn't get his way we end up having to do something about it. Please help. There will be plenty of advice on here for you, but can you provide more information? How old is he and is this a behaviour that has just started or has he always done it? Have you had him checked out at the vet at all for any possible medical issues that may be making it uncomfortable for him to use his litter tray? What sort of litter tray does he use (open or closed) and have you tried different types of litter? Is he using the litter tray at all?? It helps to have more than one litter tray, we have two, and our Bengals use one for peeing and one for poop, they don't use the same one for both. As they have got bigger we've also had to get the largest trays we could find as they outgrew their original ones.

There are lots of people on here who can give you loads of good advice, but I am sure your boy isn't doing this out of spite when he doesn't get his own way - there will be a very good reason and its just working out what is upsetting him about using the litter box. It could be where it is located, or he may feel it isn't clean enough.

I really hope you find a solution.

It's real important that you and your parents stop getting angry with him when he pees in the wrong place. You will never solve this problem with negative reinforcement, and the more stress you add to his life, the worse it will get.

The fact that he pees in a place, you put a litterbox there, and then he pees somewhere else suggests that he thinks there is something wrong with that litterbox. So it's probably not marking or environmental (like too noisy a location or something like that). So I think that leaves you with:

1. A medical issue that is causing an aversion to using the litterbox (i.e., he pees and is having discomfort, therefore he associates it with the litterbox)

or

2. Something about that litterbox he is finding unacceptable (too small, too smelly, wrong kind of litter, not enough litter in it, closed when he wants open etc etc).

How many litterboxes does he have? How long have you had him? Has he always had this problem? If not what has changed? Have you changed the brand of litter you are using? What is his medical history? When he goes somewhere he shouldn't, does he approach the box and sniff it? Or just avoid it completely and march straight to where he wants to go and goes? Where does he go poo? In this same box? In a different box? On the floor?

These kinds of problems are definitely solvable, but it will certainly test your commitment to you cat, and the anger and added stress are the first things that need to stop to get this solved. You can also contact a cat behaviorist who should be able to help, as this is undoubtedly one of the most common issues that they deal with, so they will be very familiar with this type of problem.

Taylor, welcome to the forum. There are a lot of threads about this very thing here. Most of us don't have this problem. Our bengals use the litter box. You've been given great advice so far -- get him to the vet to have him completely checked out to rule out a urinary tract infection or crystals in the urine. If he gets a clean bill of health, then it's definitely a problem with the litter box. As Brian said ... location? type of litter? type of box? The biggest problem is having a littler box that is too small for the cat -- or having a covered litter box because it will contain the odors (which the cat smells every time he goes inside to use it). I use a large open litter box for Raiden. I wouldn't recommend moving the litter box around. You can ADD a litter box and put it in a new location. Most of all, you must use an enzyme cleaner to get rid of the odor from the urine or the cat will return there. I know this is completely exasperating for you and your family and it does get old after a while, but the cat is trying to tell you something -- something is wrong, especially if he's used his litter box in the past.

Spend some time Googling and read this forum to see what has worked for others. I know you do not want to rehome your kitty cat. Something like this isn't solved overnight, but it's going to take everyone in the family agreeing on what to try to solve the problem and make your kitty want to use his litter box again.
