I have two Bengals - a male and a female, both have been spayed/neutered. They will be one year old in September. About 3-4 months ago, I have had a problem especially with Nala, the female. She sometimes likes to "pee" in strange places, for instance, on top of my blankets when I am in bed! She has also pee'd in places we like to sit most often, the chair in front of the television, and our office chair for example. More often than not, she does it when we are there watching. I've taken her to the vet and she does not have any infections. She'll go weeks at a time without an incident, then all of a sudden when you are least expecting it...doesn't seem to have anything to do with clean/not so clean litterboxes. Doesn't seem to be the distance to the nearest litterbox either, because there is a litterbox in my bedroom and she really enjoys pee'ing the bed.
The male bengal has had a few incidents, one being inside the dryer when we left the door open, he actually did #2 in there - needless to say we do not leave the dryer door open anymore.
I've had cats my entire life but have never experienced this before! Any suggestions anyone?

Almost certainly trying to tell you something......

Have you always used the same brand of cat litter? Have you ever changed it?

The only time we've had problems with this kind of behavoir is when we've tried changing brands. Even if the tray is completely clean, they prefer the litter they've had since they was born, which is World's Best Cat litter.

Well even though they've been spayed/neutered they will still spray/wee occasionally.....It's just a territory thing because now they're reaching full maturity.

Also sometimes cats will do something like this to show their distain against changes in their enviroment.....Like maybe the moving of a litterbox, some new furniture or a new kitten thats invading their space, Basically anything they don't approve of they will let you know one way or another.....wether they decide to meow/moow constantly or leave a strategically placed landmine is purely at their own discretion  .....It will settle down eventually anyways once their both happy that the place smells of them and them only!

Normally you'll find a cat spraying the extremities of it's territory like the front or back door of your house.....And yes they will do it right in front of you just as if to let you know it's their patch and it belongs only to them.....You may pay the morgage/rent but it belongs to them as far as their concerned (they don't mind having live-in slaves provided you keep the place clean  )

It sounds like your doing everything you can.....The only advice I can offer is to maybe move the litter to where they spray the most, Not just in the same room but right on the spot where they spray.....even just for a day or two.

They'll look a bit bewildered at it for a while but they will use it......I know it'll make your house look a bit funny with litter trays all over, But it worked better for us rather than using a deodorizer spray which only made matters worse making them spray all the more.

One last thing.....It could be that they can smell another animal on you.....If you have any contact with dogs or cats outside the home enviroment that is.

Thanks for the advice so far...I'm not so sure this is spraying they are doing though. It's primarily the female - Nala - and she does a full squat and does her thing. I've seen cats spray and this doesn't seem to be the same, just looks like she is using other places for her litter box.

I can't think now if anything changed necessarily. Seems I was wondering if they were mad I was out of their usual wet cat food I give them in the evening as a treat, and another time I had been out all day and hadn't given them any attention. Not sure about the cat litter - I tend to just buy whatever looks reasonable and never gave it much thought.

We do have 2 other non-bengal cats that we had prior to the bengals. One is a problem and we keep her now most of the time in the basement and let her up for short periods of time or until trouble occurs. She cannot seem to get along with the bengals, even after all this time. She is very cruel, and the bengals are afraid of her, even though now they are much larger and stronger. She will stalk the bengals and beat up Nala. She seems to hate our female Bengal in particular. I just keep hoping things will smooth out in time.

So many issues going on here!!!

I would say try and get a litter they like and stick to it for a while, might not help, but it would at least rule it out.

More likely is that they are trying to show your other cat who's boss.....marking their territory....

I will have to try to pay better attention to keeping the same type of catlitter - maybe buying larger litterboxes as well. I've never had to worry about anything like this before so it's new for me. I have been keeping the bengals out of my bedroom to avoid anymore bed incidents with Nala. Nothing much worse than being peed on by your bengal while laying in bed! I've not had an incident since I first posted on this topic.

Well I've had no "incidents" since I last posted! We have used the same cat litter, and have been keeping them out of our bedroom. I am keeping my fingers crossed, I really love these guys!

Red,

we have had exactly the same problem.

Got a boy and a girl. The boy is faultless and goes in his litter tray even cries to get to it if the door is shut and he can't get to it.

The girl will wet anywhere and everywhere. We have TRIED EVERYTHING and she will still do it if left alone.

We have tried sprays, different litter, different litter trays, additional litter trays, putting the litter tray where she has gone (she will then just go in the corner next to the litter tray), putting their food where she has gone, putting citric sprays and fresh lemons down, praising her when she is in the litter tray to make it a good place to go. You name it we have tried it.

But she still does it if she is out of our site and near where she has soiled before.

She has even peed on our leather sofa, while we were stroking her

We tried confining her to the downstairs utility room with a litter tray, she now only goes outside to toilet, she wont go in her tray at all, just think she hates litter trays. We have noticed that she doesn't cover her excretions like our other cat, she just squats and runs.

good luck in finding a solution, it may just be the fact that that is the way she is, that is the conclusion that we have come to.

Also, there has been no disruptions in the house.
