I have been reading various meow post with great interest and I can relate on so many levels.

My cat Zuri use to start meowing as soon as she heard one of us stirring in the morning. This was normally around 5am onwards.
I use to close the bedroom door on her and she would sulk off to my daughters room and meow at her. My daughter is eleven and needs the sleep.

We use to all ignore her and eventually she realised that we weren't getting up until we were ready.

Now she hears my alarm at 7am and starts meowing.

She is saying..'Feed me, play with me, let me out.....' which is the routine/order that we do things every morning (out on a lead in the garden).

I only work a few hours then in the afternoon she meows to greet me. When my daughter comes home she meows for a good 15 mins telling my daughter about her day.

I take Zuri every afternoon for a walk and on our way back 3 of my neighbours cats usually meet us in my front garden to say hello. (They are free roaming cats). Zuri hisses and growls at the two and seems to just about tolerate the ginger cat.

This is where the problem starts she sleeps after the long walk and when she wakes up she meows for hours and I mean hours to be let outside again She has been spade but she has a particular interest in the neighbours ginger cat!!! I have tried playing with her and changing her focus away from the back door but she ignores me.

She sits by the back door and meows constantly or in our bedroom window. I can't work out whether It is either 'let me out' or 'stay away other cats' Even when I let her out in the garden (supervised) she still meows. It is like she is either warning other cats or calling them.

I just ignore her meows and get on with things. I adore her little chirps when she talks to the birds....

I can now recognise the meow for:

I am just going to use the litter tray
Fed me fed me fed me Now (urgent meows)
If you don't open this door I am going to scream.. (constant meow).
Turn the bathroom tap on I want fresh running water (growl meow)

So what do you think the constant meowing is about?

I can tolerate her normal day to day meows because it is cute and I know what she wants but when it is constant it is similar to a pneumatic drill!!! Due to this my partner wants to get rid of her... (its the cat or me scenario)!!!.... It is disturbing his enjoyment of footbal. Pfft...

I am 80% in favour of the cat winning.. hehe..

So any suggestions why the constant meow for an hour or so per day?

I have one of those nonstop meowing Bengals myself. He was a free roaming cat for six years before I took possession of him a year ago and decided he could only go outside on a leash. We also built him a large 12'x12' enclosure on our deck that he can access 24/7 that has a couple of cat trees, a 3-room cat house, a water fountain and some toys.

Has this stopped his meowing? Nope! Bengals are known to be vocal. The nonstop crying can be aggravating, but I usually just talk back to him to ignore him. He's usually crying for attention and would like someone to massage him and rub his belly 24/7 and that's impossible. He gets lots of time when we are home, but there is no way I can give him ALL my time.

Once cats have tasted the outside world -- even on a leash, they enjoy it. It's a world full of smells and other animals and it's enticing to the cat. Unfortunately, if you just let your cat roam free, there are so many perils out there, least of all other cats that like to fight. Raiden wants to tear into two male cats that come into our yard. He can't, of course, but that doesn't mean he won't try.

What does help is when I can take Raiden out for a morning walk -- weekends and when I'm not working. It's summer and quite hot here already and our afternoon walks are short because of the heat. The morning walks are cooler and he knows he will get to go outside again later in the day. It seems to calm him down and he'll nap more.

You're doing the right thing for your little girl. Bengals thrive on attention and you can never give them enough of it. I simply accept that the meowing is part of my Raiden and I don't let it aggravate me the way it did in the beginning. I do know what you mean about sleep. Raiden wakes me up in the middle of the night and will usually come back to bed and sleep. There are some mornings, he is crying and crying -- and when it gets light outside, he feels it's time for everyone to be up and out of bed. The only peace and quiet I'm going to have is if and when I'm ever cat-less.

oh yes - the constant meowing. One of mine - i'm delighted to say only meows when his favourite toy or the catnip bubbles come out, apart from that i dont hear a peep from him. My other bengal - wow he talks for the pair of them and the rest of the cats on the estate. He'll meow for food, meow to be let outside (thats the pitiful meow with the sad eyes) the howl he does from the top of the stairs when he wants the other cat to come upstairs and play - and he will howl and howl and howl until I tell him to shut up. I get the very loud but polite meow in my face at 5am in the morning and dont get me started on the beurupt noises he makes!

I wouldn't change it tho - well maybe the 5am wake up call but the nose kisses and cuddle i get with it make it tolerable!
