Hi,

I have has my girl Akira for 4 months now which means she is coming up to 6 months old. She started off great and we has no complaints! Lately however she has developed a few habits which are driving me crazy!

1. After she does a poo she literally puts her paws in it and then puts her paws all up the wall. She then starts scratching the wall. She also climbs back into the kitty litter and steps in it again before wiping it all over the floor. We have observed her do this many times.
2.She pees in every sink and bathtub regardless of how clean her kitty litter is.
3. She has started peeing in certain areas around the house.
4. She has stopped "burying" her poo.

I don't know what to do. We use a natural clumping litter which she seems to like a lot more than other brands.
We feed Akira only Royal Canin and her poo is absolutely putrid smelling however it gives us better results than other brands.

I just don't know what to do with her! We have tried absolutely everything we can think of so any help would be appreciated! We honestly cannot handle it anymore.

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

Bengal poo doesn't smell of roses by any means but if its really bad have you thought about having it tested for any parasites.

Regarding stepping in it - how big is your litter tray? It might be that she needs a bigger tray. I had problems with my two when they were babies, they would step into the poo, especially as it was runny - it would go absolutely everywhere, they both had TF.
If it helps - when mine weren't well they wouldn't cover their poo - almost as a sign of - look at my poo - its not right!

Some thoughts:

1. I agree with Becky, a really powerfully bad smelling poo is characteristic of a parasite (TF or giardia). Which may actually be good news for you as it is straight forward to treat for that.

2. If you only have one litterbox, then that may be part of the problem too. Some bengals don't like to pee and poo in the same box.

3. If part of the problem is her touching the wall after doing a poo, why not move the box slightly farther from the wall?

Really odd behavior. Most animals don't want to touch their poo! You said your baby is 6 months old and you've had her for four months, means you got her when she was 8 weeks old? That's a little young to be taken away from her mother. Just sounds like she didn't learn proper habits before she was taken away and given to you. Hopefully, your vet can help you out a little bit and answer your questions.

A few things spring to mind.

More trays! Some cats do not like to pee and poop in same tray. Open or closed?

There should be no issue treading in poo as it should be firm enough to not transfer to their paw. If it is soft then there us an issue so they need investigating for parasites. A full fecal screen would be best.

All my cats try to bury their litter tray offerings by scraping the floor outside their tray or sometimes the wall next to it.
