Do you have neighbours who get up / go to bed at different times?
My neighbours alarm goes off at 0540, 6 days a week. I work shifts, often not getting to bed before 0200, but Merlin wakes up to their alarm... Then expects me to wake up as well. He will yowl and lick my eyes, scratch my arm, and start jumping across me until I give him some attention, then food, and he will then go out, letting me go back to bed...

Perhaps you have a similar situation that you have not identified? I have learned to adjust, because I cannot reasonably expect Merlin to not be woken by the alarm through the wall, with his sensitive hearing. I cannot change rooms, as the neighbours bedroom runs front to back in their house, and both my bedrooms butt onto the adjoining wall.

Just a thought of another thing to eliminate...

It doesn't bother me at all - I am happy to feed him when it suits me.... ie when my alarm goes off!
I think I have had him long enough to know how to live with his Bengal issues! :wink1:

I have been reading this post with great interest and I can relate on so many levels.

My cat Zuri use to start meowing as soon as she heard one of us stirring in the morning. This was normally around 5am onwards.
I use to close the bedroom door on her and she would sulk off to my daughters room and meow at her. My daughter is eleven and needs the sleep.

We use to all ignore her and eventually she realised that we weren't getting up until we were ready.

Now she hears my alarm at 7am and starts meowing.

She is saying..'Feed me, play with me, let me out.....' which is the routine/order that we do things every morning (out on a lead in the garden).

I only work a few hours then in the afternoon she meows to greet me. When my daughter comes home she meows for a good 15 mins telling my daughter about her day.

I take Zuri every afternoon for a walk and on our way back 3 of my neighbours cats usually meet us in my front garden to say hello. (They are free roaming cats). Zuri hisses and growls at the two and seems to just about tolerate the ginger cat.

This is where the problem starts she sleeps after the long walk and when she wakes up she meows for hours and I mean hours to be let outside again She has been spade but she has a particular interest in the neighbours ginger cat!!! I have tried playing with her and changing her focus away from the back door but she ignores me.

She sits by the back door and meows constantly or in our bedroom window. I can't work out whether It is either 'let me out' or 'stay away other cats' Even when I let her out in the garden (supervised) she still meows. It is like she is either warning other cats or calling them.

I just ignore her meows and get on with things. I adore her little chirps when she talks to the birds....

I can now recognise the meow for:

I am just going to use the litter tray
Fed me fed me fed me Now (urgent meows)
If you don't open this door I am going to scream.. (constant meow).
Turn the bathroom tap on I want fresh running water (growl meow)

So what do you think the constant meowing is about?

I can tolerate her normal day to day meows because it is cute and I know what she wants but when it is constant it is similar to a pneumatic drill!!! Due to this my partner wants to get rid of her... (its the cat or me scenario)!!!.... It is disturbing his enjoyment of footbal. Pfft...

I am 80% in favour of the cat winning.. hehe..

So any suggestions why the constant meow for an hour or so per day?

SORRY IGNORE THE LAST COMMENT. STARTED A NEW THREAD... Didn't want to hog this thread asking for advice...

I am still trying to work out certain meows. Which baffles me sometimes!!

What I have learnt is my bengal likes to stick to a routine. By doing this she knows exactly what is happening on a daily basis and meows at the appropriate times... (I have an exception which I have started a new thread for advice).

Us...........................v............Bengal meows
Alarm goes off - feed time meow
Getting ready - can go outside, open the door now meow
Home from school - I need to tell u about my day meow
Get changed. - hurry up I am waiting for you meow
Take for a walk. - I am so excited meow
Prepare food. - feed me feed me feed me meow
Walks upstairs. - Don't disturb I am using the litter meow
Have a bath. - open the door I want to drink meow
Go to bed. - no chance meow - play with me!!

It is trying to work out why!!!... she use to meow next to my unit in the kitchen. It took me ages to work out she wanted a slice of pear out of the fruit bowl!!!! (My daughter dropped her pear stalk once and she ran away with it...)

It might be worth setting a routine and sticking 2 it for a while to see how it goes. Zuri knows walk, feed, play bed..

Just a thought off the top of my head... R u feeding her enough? Is she hungry and moaning for extra food? Could you possible feed her later/earlier so her belly is fuller longer?
