Yup ... it is annoying but, honestly, if I didn't leave stuff on the floor, she wouldn't pee on it. Since I moved, she hasn't peed on the couch, on my bed or on the area rug and I bet she would have in the old place. She really hated my roommate. I still don't really know why. If I pick up after myself, she is fine and only pees in her litter boxes.

Little Mika quirks ... lol

Quentin has always been flawless ! He often likes to visit every litter (4 litters for 3 cats) before choosing THE one, and talks to them before using them.

We have two 7 month old males - the early signs of impeccable sharing of one large covered litter tray is staring to go downhill

They have been with us just under a month and there have been three occasions of 'dirty footprints' and too much litter around the box than is ideal. On one occasion poo was ejected! Yuk. On the bright side: our floor and hard surfaces are more hygienically clean now than ever

This hasn't been helped by one of the two boys having rather soft stools therefore even the slightest catch of your brother's doings with his foot whilst covering-up can result in this I suppose. (I'll raise a new thread re. advice regarding kitten food and soft stools)

I've accepted that it just has to be two litter trays and will have to find the floor space, giving it some thought we feed them in the kitchen already - it would be wrong to try and feed them in the small utility room in close proximity to the toilet!

I am at a loss. I have 2 cats one us a bean gal and the other a Russian blue. My beangal refuses to us the litter box to pee, but always poops in a littler box. I currently have 2 litter boxes and have had up to 4 at one time. If I see her getting ready to pee and I pick her up and put her in the litter box, she will scratch, get out and then go pee somewhere else. I don't know what I can do to change this habit. I have struggled with it since we got her at 12 weeks and she is now 3 years old. My husband wants to get rid of her, but really we just want her to pee in a litter box. Not on the carpet, desk, clothes, floor, couch, etc... does anyone have any suggestions?

Flawless, No mishaps other than tracking litter out of the box.
Funny he has used the box since he was a baby, Then ended up going outside and didn't realize he could actually use the bathroom outside and would hold it til he came back in then would go in his litter box, I was skeptical when I transferred him back to being an indoor cat, But not one issue. He even has to wipe the sides & top of is litter hood to make sure its clean.. PICKY

The post is old, so I hope I'm not bothering you guys. Because cat learns to use the litter box from its mother. There is a chance that he/she won't know how to use it if being separated from the mother too soon. So when your cat doesn't want to use its litter box, there are a few things you could try. First is to change the box, it could be the size or shape of the box that makes your cat dislike it. Second, consider using a different type of litter might solve the problem. Litters with attractive smells will tend to work better. If you had tried both and none of them worked, here is another method which could be helpful. Use a rag to clean the urine and poop of your cat. Then place the rag into the litter box. Your cat will notice a familiar smell and come to the box.

I've never heard of the "rag" thing, but I guess it would work. The vast majority of cats are fine using a litter box. Those who do not, many have medical issues that need to be addressed. We always recommend changing out to a different type of litter box and litter if your cat is healthy. Adding more boxes is a good option as well. Mine, thankfully, has always used his litter boxes.

I voted "Very occasional problems" although I think from Oberon's point of view, his litterbox habits are flawless. :)

He is currently in the mode of using litterboxes and sometimes peeing in the shower. He sometimes uses toilets and generally is neat about it, but may be peeing at the base of the toilet or "missing". He defecates in the toilet, sometimes spatters alot. Ugh. Once he missed, and apparently tried to cover up his mess but neatly folding up the bathroom carpet... A bigger mess, but he was trying to do the right thing.

Once, I had a friend over and he put the toilet lid down to be polite. Oberon promptly peed on the toilet lid.

Flawless? Not quite!

Hi guys, first time poster here and I'll be honest, I've joined because I'm looking for some advice with litter training my Bengal boy, Arnold.

I got him as an older kitten (6 months) and he came "litter trained" using the wood pellets. When I first got him, I kept him in a dog cage to get used to the new smells etc for a few days. He used the litter tray in there. When I opened it up so he could have a wander, he did use the tray still but I then started having some issues with him peeing/pooping on the sofa. I've since got rid of the sofa (it was a lil broken anyway) and he's now got used to going on "puppy pads" where I was trying to cover things I didn't want him to pee on...

I'm at a stage currently where he's now going in the litter tray again but only when there's a puppy pad inside. It's also not currently in a location where I would like to keep it long term. I actually bought an XL tray because he looked like he didn't have enough room in the other one.

I'm really struggling a little here guys, as I'm trying everything I can to make him comfortable and to go in the same spot for both his pees and poops. He's fantastic with me... just not when it comes to consistently going in the tray. I'd like to get him back to using a litter.

Any advice/tips/help would be hugely appreciated.

Merry Christmas!

Seems like many of the old posts are being resurrected. I try to make sure I find all the new posts, but I miss some.

Litter box habits -- the #1 complaint from cat owners. The litter box needs to be for the convenience of your cat and not for you. If your cat prefers pellets, use the pellets. If your cat wants more privacy in a hooded litter box, get one. Trying to "change" the habits of a cat is not easy, so in many cases, the owner needs to do the changing. My advice is go to back to what the cat is used to in the litter box. I'm sorry, but you got an older cat who has been set in its ways for a long while. I'm sure this situation is aggravating for you, but it is more aggravating for your kitty who doesn't have a familiar litter box.

Cats are not prone to use puppy pads, so I would stop that immediately. Cats need to dig and cover.
