Last couple months I have been working on being able to get my Mia to walk on a leash. Its been fun and worth the effort. Today she finally embraced it.

How I did it was I took the leash and harness and for a few weeks left it on the ground. I even used it as a toy to get her used to its presence. After that I put her in the harness everyday for a hour or so. Her first reaction for at least a week was to simply flop over or drop to the ground like she was dead lol. What helped was distracting her via toys and she would forget it was on her.

My next stage was to attach the leash to her and let her run around the house. I had to do this because the leash dragging behind her was a toy to her and all she would do is attack it. Finally as time went on I finally took her outside.

I was attemping to walk in her inside at first but for a cat thats no fun...they already know what the inside of your house smells and looks like. So I picked her up and went out the back porch. The whole time I was giving her praise since she was startled. It can be a overwhelming thing for a cat since there smell, sight and sound orientated. Notice her tail is up high..very confident cat.

So far we have not ventured more then my porch and a couple bushes outside of that since now there is 10x more for her to smell and see. I expect everyday we'll go further and she will walk more readily. Anyhow I am pleased enjoy the pics!

Success! Congratulations! It just took time. And with each walk, Mia will gain confidence and want to explore a little bit further. It's a wonderful time for the two of you. I bring along a towel and, at some point, Raiden will decide to stop and rest -- usually in the sunshine by a tree in our yard. I spread out the towel, we both sit on it and bask in the warmth.

Good idea! Yea it did take some time but alot of it was wasted trying to walk her in the house. She was not interested in that which led me thinking she was not walkable. So I basically just threw her outside and things went well. Its interesting to see her transform when shes outside. She was hyper alert.

I plan on doing it everyday for 20-30 mins now. Gotta wear her out shes a bundle!

So far the walking is going well. If you live in a busy area I would suggest perhaps finding a park intially. Had some freak out episodes from trash man and all the racket it makes while I was walking but its going well. Spring time is coming so time to get Revolution Anti-Flea topical if I continue since she likes to lay on the grass and roll around in it.
