Thank you for allowing me to join your site.

I am new to the wonderful world of Bengals, but have loved them for a long time. My wonderful boyfriend Jules bought me a silver boy for my 40th birthday pressie (he is an early pressie as my birthday is September!) Teoh arrived on friday 18th of May at 13 weeks old. He is an absolute joy and full of character. He is by my side as I type!

I am so lucky as once had anaphylactic shock from touching a cat and thought I would never be able to be around a cat again. We read that Bengals were good for allergies, we thought about it for a year or two and then went to the breeders armed with anti-hystamines, a very concerned boyfriend ready to drive me to hospital and thank goodness all was well, have had no reaction and we are now new parents to a stunning boy.

I wish to do everything right and to learn as much as I can on how to bring baby Teoh up. I hope he will be okay without a bengal friend. The breeder said he would be more 'human orientated' if we just bought the one, but since then have read they like being in pairs?

He is very loving and has his own bedroom here full of bengally toys, nice bed and basket and his own bathroom!

I am a little concerned as the breeder (who is lovely) told us to feed him on 'adult' felix catfood pouches with jelly. I noticed a kitten range whilst out shopping this weekend. Should he be eating this instead?

Also, he seems to play in his bowl of water and not drink it?

What should I do? I am worried as I have not seen him drink water yet. Bought him some kitten milk and he gulped that down and then kept going back to his bowl as if to say please may I have more.

Jules and I love him so much. I cannot believe we have ever been without our little baby

I've had Oska for 3 months now so I'm not an expert Don't worry about the water that is a Bengal trait he probably drinks it when you're not watching.

Food wise I'd go with the kitten food as it has more nutrients in it. You might want to give him a raw chicken wing as a treat, Oska goes mad for these.

Teoh is quite a scrounger! His breeder said of all 9 kittens it was always him trying to eat sausages and food from their bbq!!!

Trying to train him in the ways of etiquette

We are keeping him out of the room while we are eating as he seems to want a bite of everything! Especially bacon sannies and milk!

His cousin 'Chaos' apparently loves curry!

I am not sure if I can switch his food without him getting an upset tummy? Should it be a gradual change do you think?

Yum, chicken wing, he is reading this over my shoulder and says you sound like a perfect Mummy to Oska!!!!

Wow what a stunner!

The water thing is normal. When ours was a kitten we used to sink heavy toys to the bottom of a big bowl of water as he loved to fish them out. Ours had a separate bowl to play in with toys, floating or sunk, so he had one to play in and one to drink. The danger of this is that he used to attack feet in the bath! He probably is drinking in secret but just watch out for signs that he is dehydrated, his skin should be supple. He will be getting a lot of the liquid he needs from being fed a wet diet. All cats are different, some drink a lot some very little. He is probably just conning you into the kitten milk. Perhaps you could try watering this down into a 50-50 mix so that he is getting lesss of the calories and more water intake, if he loves it so much he will drink it watered down.

THe most important thing is to watch out for any changes and love him and cherish every moment with him. Once you have bonded you will know what he needs, but remember they are con artists!

Yup, bengals certainly love their water! I can't open a bottle of water without mine being all over me wanting me to pour some in the lid for him. They just love the attention.

I did buy my cats one of the little kitty water fountains, and they love it.

I've never been a fan of those little jelly packages of food. I prefer to feed mine a dry diet (Innova EVO), with a small can of wet food as a treat. (split between three!) LOL...

Although I have three cats, my bengal is very human oriented. Very outgoing and friendly, and isn't all that scared of strangers. I used to take him for walks on a harness, and he'd walk right up to people trying to headbutt them! Very sweet boy.
