hi there

we have an 8 month bengal girl she lovely in every way but one thing is starting to get out of hand! she will not use her tray for pooing - she uses the bed ( started to shut our bedroom door) and now has moved over to pooing on the carpet (small rug) and most recently the sofa ( 3 times in a row now)
we keep the litter clean - we have 2 other cats, so its poo free most of the time, aprt from when we are out...

she does her wees in the tray and as i said everything else is perfect she is a very loving young cat

we are getting desperate for advice now

we havent changed the litter and its a way from the food too

any help will be most erm helpful!

love kel and mark

Hi Kel and Mark,

There may be a lot of reasons for this but if you have 3 cats you probably should in a perfect world have 4 litter trays, one per cat and one spare.

Some cats just don't like pooing and weeing in the same tray.
Despite keeping the litter clean it probably does smell of the other cats ( to a cat).
A quick wee is OK but pooing takes longer and she may have been bullied or some thing happened when she was in there that has upset her.
Some cats don't like closed trays, other's don't like open ones, if possible have a trial of both.
Dot the trays around the house.
I would definitely increase the number of trays in the hope that she will get used to using one again.

You also need to ask yourselves :-
Is she stressed at all at the moment? Does she get on with the other cats?
She is probably hitting puberty, is she neutered?
Is the poo normal? Is she getting caught short and not getting to the litter tray in time?

HTH

Hi Kel

We have only had our Bengal Lola for 2 weeks now and I would def get more litter trays, I started out with one but quickly learnt that two is def needed. I have one in the living room and the other in the Kitchen as she was getting cut short with just one tray.

Goodluck

I must admit some Bengals are the dirtiest breed of cats I have ever come across. We have 4 litter trays dotted around the house and Pip loves to use the bath to do his business, which isn't too bad as it is easy to clean up and bleach etc..but Merry will do it wherever she is at the time. She even once was have a cuddle and promptly peed all over my feet! I have to say though that since getting our puppy Lilly she hasn't done it in the house at all (lets hope I'm not tempting fate here). Don't know why she has suddenly gone all house trained and lovely, she is now 2. but I had in some of her worse moments thought about re homing her or having a "kennel" type thing and keeping her out doors. Thankfully she is now brill!
