I give my cats (5) a mixture of wet food and dry food, and Oska and Harvey get raw chicken legs as a treat at the weekends.

I have one bengal and one aby. I feed them both wet in the morning and in the evening and I leave dry out 24/7. They only graze at the dry and always demand their wet food at their usual feeding times. I would love to switch to a raw diet, but in all honesty....I am too LAZY to have to prepare a meal for my cats.

I don't listen to my vet when it comes to my cats' diets. He recommends that I feed them Hill's i/d. Don't get me wrong...I think he is a great doctor. I just feel like he's trying to sell his prescription food for his own benefit as opposed to recommending what is truly the most natural and nutritious diet for my cats. When I questioned him about it he couldn't give me a good answer as to why he is recommending food that is made of meat by-products instead of one made with real meat when cats are obligate carnivores. Oh well...I've learned to ignore his food recommendations. All the things I've read about feline nutrition say that raw is #1 and premium canned is #2.

Hi Jaime,

To be honest, you will read so many articles and get so many suggestions and ideas that it bocomes baffling!! As far as my experience tells me, it is gluten that Bengals digestive system has a problem with (be it maize gluten or wheat gluten). Any dry food I have tried with this in has caused loose stools - however anything without and they are absoluteley fine.

We personally choose a mainly dry food diet, and Royal Canin is our preferred choice, but even then, the Kitten 34 and Beauty & Fit has the gluten in it (so we avoid these varieties). We use Royal Canin Baby Cat 34 for the Kittens and Skincare 34 for the adults with Queen 34 for our breeding girls and as they are all indoor cats, this keeps them happy and their litter tray evidence speaks for itself.

I believe that the litter tray gives you an idea as to how happy your bengals tummy is and for us, our way works just fine.

We do give raw chicken and mince as a treat, but irregularly, so that they dont give up on their normal dry eating habits (their dry food is down 24/7, so they eat when they want).

Different vets have different ideas, but my suggestion would be if the litter tray is showing a nice firm poo!, then all is well.
