HI all,

Recently, I noticed my 2 year old Bengal girl, was losing fir in certain places.

I don't see any irritation in the areas where the fur is thin.

Before I bring her to the vet, does anyone out there in Bengal world have suggestions?

I would be happy to send a picture also, the file size limit here is very small.

Thanks,
Geoff

If there is more than one patch, then there could be a problem. Do you know if she's pulling out the fur or if it's just falling out. I'm someone who will take Raiden to the vet for anything that I feel could potentially turn out to be a health issue. Better to be safe than sorry. It's not normal for a Bengal (or any cat) to lose fur down to the skin.

Yes, it is more than one patch. It appears she is washing as normal, but the fur appears to be falling out.

I will most likely take her in soon since it's getting worse.

Thanks!

It could be an allergy. Ringworm (a fungus) can cause hairloss in multiple areas. A vet can do a culture. I just had my cat tested. It took about a week for the results. As a caution, wash your hand if you touch the cat. Some skin conditions are transferrable to humans. Don't want to gross you out, but best to be cautious until you what you are dealing with.

In the end, I discovered my cat is licking himself bald due to stress.

That was one of my concerns, ringworm or other type of infection. The areas where the balding has occurred, do not appear red or irritated.

It almost seems like she has washed too much. There are 3 cats, and they constantly sleep on top of each other, but only one has the balding.

I will likely take her to the vet in the next couple weeks.

Our cat had bold patches down one side of him back in the summer, we thought it was fleas that got to him, even though he had been flea'd a few weeks before. Luckily for us, he had been under a neighbours car bonnet, and had been asleep/lying when they started their car up again, and some of his fur got caught in a belt. (it has also taught him to be weary of cars now!!)

Might be worth seeing what a vet says. Do other cats in your neighbourhood have similar symptoms?
