Im thinking of leaving my boy as long as possible to get him done....
It would be nice to let him grow as big as possible naturally ,
i suppose ill have to build an outdoor enclosure to do this.
is this cruel?

If you do leave him, you will most likely find that he will do anything possible to escape and go wandering looking for a mate! This can be up to a 5 mile radius! In wandering that 5 miles, he could get run over or meet up with any of the other dangers you might have in Oz.... snakes, toads, dingo's etc!

You'll also find that he will start to "spray" and leave his scent wherever possible - he is likely to carry on doing this even after being "done"...

I think most breeders would recommend having him done before this behavoir starts if he is only to be a pet. Obviously if he was for breeding, then you'd have no choice....

Even a male that has been done at 6 months can reach a decent size - our male is considerably bigger than our female.

Our vet recently told us that neutered males done earlier should and in most cases do grow larger, due to the fact that the hormones that tell the growth plates to stop are no longer present.

However he did say that the pronounced jowels would not reveal themselves if early neutering had taken place.....they would reduce in size after neutering anyway.

The main thing to consider in having a house cat altered is to make sure it's done before he starts getting used to spraying rather than after.
