Our Jupiter sustained a bit of a cut yesterday, and when you look at the top of his head, the fur is parted and you can see white...Not sure how he did it, either by hitting the underneath of the table or Victor's done it when they were fighting but I was a bit worried about it.

Anyway I obviously took him to the vet's and the one I saw (she treated Max, so I trust her) said it was just a graze and was nothing to worry about. She gave him a further check over and gave him a clean bill of health. Furthermore she didn't charge for the consultation, which was nice.

Anyway, I wondered if anyone else had experienced this, and if so, does the fur just come back together again? I did rather think it might need a paper stitch or something...

This is it...poor lad.

In my experience when a cat cuts itself, the wound heals very quickly, especially if it's a clean cut like that one looks to be. Their powers of healing are much more impressive than ours. Has he lost any fur from around the wound or is the gap just because the edges haven't come back together yet?

Erm there's no fur around it's literally just parted I think so sometimes you can't tell and other times you can...

Looks like an old wound to me since the skin doesn’t appear to be broken. What generally happens is they get a cut and then the cut heals and scabs over (probably without you even noticing). Eventually, the scab falls off taking the fur with it and it's only then that you notice it.

It Could be a battle wound but it looks a bit to wide to be a claw scratch. Either way, I wouldn’t worry about it. My guess is the fur will grow back soon enough.
