Hi Everyone,

I've just seen a video of two Bengals exercising on a giant hamster wheel (about 3ft in diameter) on You Tube.

(Search for "3 bengal cats on exercise wheel" and you should find it if you'd like to see for yourself). It's brill! :D

Firstly does anyone have one and secondly does anyone know where I can get one? They seem to be an American thing really, but Bert & Ernie would love one!

Thanks, Emmy

I've been trying to find the time to make one since last summer!

I seen a few over the years, you can buy them from america/canada but they seem "very homemade contraptions".....almost to the point of being dangerous.

I do know a few breeders that have imported wheels, theres a few different designs out there....I'd avoid the spoked kind of wheel and try to find someone who'd make you the boxed version.

The boxed kind is the one that I plan to make as its much safer and more practical looking.....I'm waiting for summer to come along before I make a start on it just because I'm using fibreglass to form the actual wheel and I don't fancy glassing anything in this weather!

Word of warning if you plan to make your own.......make sure its big enough otherwise prolonged use of it may cause curvature of the spine.

Here's a link to show you the boxed style http://web.ukonline.co.uk/frances.peace/heloise.htm

Frances told us that this was a prototype that was made by another breeder overseas somewhere.....only a few were made at the time and I don't think the breeder progressed with the idea of manufacturing any more....it's a great design concept, such a shame it wasn't continued!

Hmmmm yes all the one's I've found are from the US & do look a bit "boxie".

I think I may have to speak nicely to my carpenter friend. :D

I can't believe though that some one hasn't mass produced a cat wheel - it's such a great idea!

Thanks for the info & advice & let me know how you get on if you do make your own.

I can only find really expensive ones.
There is a wooden box style wheel for $275 at:
http://www.bundascattery.com/catwheels.htm

and a metal box style wheel for $475 at:
http://www.alibriscatz.com/page9.html

and a more solid metal wheel for $850 at:

Hope this helps.

Hmm, maybe I'll save up for one...!
