Well here as promised is our DIY attempt at at secure fence. Things to bear in mind as you laugh...... is the fact that neither of us have built anything before and to say that we are a bit pants at DIY is an understatement ha ha also , we couldn't build something more permanant and therefore more asthetically pleasing as we rent, and move every 3 - 5 years. Anyway as i have said before we did kinda take our ideas from other commerical products available, but we had fun building it and to be honest are extremly pleased with it, yes next time we would do things slightly differently, but at the end of the day it does the job!
Our garden is about 15 metres long, so we decided to buy some of the large gazebos, we bought 4 as they were in the sale! the frames were white so we hamerited them black, as your eyes apparently 'see through' black and it would be less noticable after a while.





We bought some 'deer fencing' off the internet. this fencing is vitually the same as the purfect fence, what we like about this stuff is you can't get it taut, which makes it impossible for them to climb as it moves around, it doesn't look really neat but does the job!



and attached it to the frame with tie-wraps (about 900 of them!)







The bottom of the fence is extra secured into the ground using a couple of hundred tent pegs

we have recently added a gate so it is easier to get the mower in and out

Hope that this has been useful and maybe given someone an idea! Max And Freya seem to be happy with it as they ask to go outside even before their breakfast!


As you can see the grass along the edges is long, it is hard to strim as the strimmer makes light of the fencing (the bottom would be different if it was our house) but they like to hide in the long grass and it also 'hides' any possible breaches! MAx has got out once, as i mentioned above the bottom edge is secured with tent pegs, which even works on the patio - excpet in the corner of the patio where we can't get them far enough into the ground, and he managed to push his way out, we have blocked that with a table on its side for now, but are planning on getting a big plant pot which he won't be able to move once it is full of soil - just need to find a suitable plant!!

we are really pleased with it and it was quite a bit cheaper than commercial products as well, and only took 2 weekends to build. There are loads of ways it can be adapted depending on room and money too.

For someone who says they're no good at DIY, that's a pretty impressive enclosure
