why dont people get this

How can i explain to people not everyone should own a bengal. I was looking at some pet ads for the city i live in and someone is looking for a bengal for her friend and she even spelt the name wrong so instead of bengal it was bangle. Her friend only wants to spend $200-$250 dollars on a bengal kitten. So i politely said your friend wont be able to get a bengal kitten for that price probably only if you looked at a bengal rescue and i told her most of the prices for the bengal breeders here in alberta and that the cheapest one they sell their bengals for 800 dollars and they are the people i dealt with. I also went on to tell her that i researched this breed for a good 2 years before deciding and then i asked if her friend has researched them herself but i should of asked if she wants a bengal why doesnt she have an add up herself.

oh Tia it's really frustrating isn't it! You can't save them all though. You just have to hope that the bengal breeders do their jobs and get them to good homes. Leave the weeding to them. If these people truly want a bengal then they will learn they have to do a bit more research and may need to save up a little more. We all make mistakes and have learning curves. Not everyone is as knowledgeable about cats as some of us. All you can do is educate and try to be as tactful as possible. I'm crap at being tactful so I can't offer any more advice on that matter!

well i just recieved an email from the girl and i am really glad that she did not get mad that i had told her that all she was wanting to do was something nice for her friend who goes on and on about bengals. So i am going to look up some research for them both hopefully to look at and hopefully they make the right decision. I am still learning things about bengals everyday.

A good start would be to point her to this thread!! =)

Then tell her to go ahead and read the behavior category. Add the disclaimer that not ALL of these behaviors will show up in any given cat (or in some cases, not any adverse behaviors), but she might just get lucky and get the one with them all
