...and with all the daffodils blooming around my house, I feel it's prudent to remind everyone that a lot of Spring flowers are poisonous if not downright deadly for our cats. I know it's nice to have a colorful Spring bouquet or flower basket on the dining room table, but be careful what you bring into the house!
- Most Spring bulbs are poisonous, and often the plants that grow out of them are as well, e.g. daffodils, hyacinths, tulips, iris are all toxic for cats. Narcissus-like plants all have alkaloids that are toxic.
- Lilies are deadly for cats, so be extremely careful with Easter lilies and such! Better not to have any in the house at all.
- If you're into gardening and starting your seedlings on the window sill before planting them outside, be careful with some of those, too. E.g. tomato, bean, sweet pea and morning glory seedlings are all toxic for cats.
Do your research before growing plants where your cats potentially have access to them. Better safe than sorry!
