I think it is best if you just told your nieces and nephews to leave her alone and not to try and pick her up. If they are old enough to pick up a cat they are old enough to understand not to pick her up.

Some cats don't like being picked up no matter how much handling they have had in the past.

Just because they one may be old enough she is 3 so she doesnt pick them up well and my niece does whatever she wants so i really doubt that would work.

my bengal is 4 I've had her from 13 weeks and she came from a good loving breeder - however I would never pick her up just for the sake of it, she hates it, growls and claws come out - she has bitten the vet twice - some cats just hate being handled with her its in the genes, her mother was retired from the show bench for biting a judge - it may be that your cat comes from a line that just don't want to be picked up

surely the children will listen to their parents if they say not to touch the cat?

I have had Harley for a little over 8 months, and when we first got him he was very timid and there was absolutely zero chance of us picking him up. He was a rescue by the way and we are unsure of his past, but my guess is that it wasnt pleasant. Back on topic, it took some time for him to open up to us, but he finally came around. My advice is to just take it slow, and let your bengal adjust. I am just now to the point where I can pick him up and move him from say the bed to the floor for example. Sometimes I must hold my hand near him for him to sniff me before he will even allow me to pet him. Once he realizes its me, he relaxes and is my little cuddle bug. I guess what im trying to say is, love the cat at the pace that it will allow you to. Also, in regards to the children, most arent exactly gentle, and often move fast. This isnt probally the best combination when it comes to a cat that is in a new environment. I would suggest keeping your bengal in a room while they are over. Once your bengal trust you, you can slowly introduce it to the children in small, monitored sessions.
