Hi,

I wondered if anyone can recommend a good pet insurer. I understand Pet Plan is good, but I've had friends before who have cancelled their insurance coz when their pets have needed the vets the insurers have claimed their treatment wasn't covered.

Tsega is an in door cat, who only goes out under supervision on a harness. Will this make my cover cheaper?

Any ideas on a suitable insurer for an in door cat & how much roughly I can expect to pay yearly.

Hi,

I use PetPlan for my two boys. I have the super cat policy and it covers everything you could need with upto £12,000 vet fees per year. It costs about £20 each cat per month but well worth it I think. I have recently made a claim and within days had the cheque from them so I would definantly reccommend them.

I know i'm coming in very late on this topic but i'm new, so Hi!

I've been with Healthy Pets for about 3 years now and have had no problems whatsoever. They've always been efficient with dealing with enquiries and quick with paying out on claims.

For the price i pay for all mine (approx £30 for about £5000 coverage each) i'm very happy. I have six cats (1 bengal) so unfortunately putting some money away in a savings account isn't really practical. And, as someone has already said, you could have a very large vet bill and you're stuck with putting it on a credit card etc.

One of my cats died from a brain tumour several years back. She went from outwardly fine to passing within 5 days. Throughout that time we had scans and tests etc and it come in total to just under £2500 so personally, i would NEVER not be insured.

We were lucky in that we were with Tesco's Pet insurance then and they just about covered it but i never really liked them very much and i had to chase the claim up several times (although when i finally got through to a supervisor, she was extremely apologetic and efficient and i had the cheque the next day.)

Anyway, i would recommend Healthy Pets. I've considered Pet Plan previously but with 6 cats, it isn't really financially viable right now.

Just thought i'd add my two pennies worth!

Should I insure kitty as soon as he gets home or wait untill he is neutered? does neutering change premium prices at all?

Do you guys who have your kitty's insured get annual reductions in premiums like car and house insurance if no claims are made?

you should get 4 weeks free from his breeder & it's best to continue that so there is no break in cover. i don't think neutering makes a huge difference & you just know something would go wrong in the break while he was uninsured
not sure about a "no claims" deal, it's not something i've heard of but then i'm just going by what i read about insurance as i find having breeders works out too costly to insure.
if i just had a few pets then they would certainly be insured & i do recommend all my pet customers continue their policies once they are due to be renewed.
