Thank you, I really wasn't sure, insurance is the only thing that confuses me, I have researched many companies and when I contacted one to ask questions I didn't feel like I was having the question answered and instead was given a robotic response So I thought personal experience was the best.

For one insurer they offer £6,500 worth of claims per year but you can only claim up to 12 months per disorder, I know it is highly unlikely but what if kitty got diabeties or something. It really making my head spin.

There's a lot to think about when insuring your cat - one of the main things, as you've already spotted, is that some companies have a 1 year limit per condition, others have a cash limit each year but will continue to pay for ongoing conditions. Some also exclude certain conditions - Tesco won't pay for dental work for example.

It's a question of weighing up what cover they offer and what you can afford to pay (some insurance is better than none) and also hearing about people's experiences when making claims. Your kitten will probably come with some insurance so the decision will be whether to extend that policy or take out a different one with another company.

Thanks Ginnym, I think this is going to be the hardest decision to make second to finding a breeder (Which fingers crossed I have) oh and a reliable vet

PetPlan give you "cover for life". This means that any claims are covered to the annual policy limit. At policy renewal, your claims are sent back to zero.

I'd never insured my cats (and never had any situations where I would have needed to claim) so I didn't insure Dolly or the moglets. Then Delilah had her "encounter" with a dog which cost me £100 and might have cost more if she'd had to have her leg amputated so I re-evaluated my decision. Ultimately I decided I couldn't afford one of the gold standard policies like PetPlan so I've gone with Tesco - they don't provide the same level of cover but have a good reputation for dealing with claims. I'm know the limitations of the policy but took the decision that some insurance was better than none and I'll have another look at it when it comes to renewal time.
