Meet Isabelle. She will be two in February.



I joined this forum in hopes that maybe there are some Bengal experts that can help me curb some of my spoiled lady's habits.

1. She knocks things off of counters and tables. Now, it is only a smidge irritating that she jumps up and cleans herself, sleeps and plays on the kitchen and bathroom counter--though I wish she wouldn't do it, I can live with it. What I can NOT stand is that while she is cleaning herself, sleeping or playing on these counters, if anything is even remotely in her vicinity, (a glass, plate, hair straightener) she will push it off the edge with her paw. It is quite irritating when you get home to find three glasses broken on the floor because she found them to be a complete nuisance.

2. Recently, she has started getting into the garbage. I had some leftover burrito from Taco Bell that I put into a plastic grocery bag, knotted it up and put into the garbage can. An hour later, she has gotten it out of the garbage can, miraculously untied my knots, gotten the burrito out of its wrapper, and ate it. All.

3. Her water dish and, come to think of it, virtually every glass that is filled with liquid that is left unsupervised, she knocks over. With her water, she will drink until she has had enough and then knock it over. Why can't she just walk away from it when she's finished without spilling it all over the place? (It's just great when she combines habit #1 with this one and knocks a full glass of OJ off of the coffee table so I not only have to clean up GLASS, but scrub orange juice out of the carpet as well!)

I feel like I have an out of control teenage daughter. She is my first Bengal and I love her to death for her feisty personality but I need to learn to curb those three issues.

Yes, your Bengal is just being a typical Bengal!
All you can do is to leave counter tops clear, doors closed, put any food garbage straight outside and try putting her water bowl on a large tray or inside a larger bowl to save spillages.

She will possibly settle down the older she gets but her ‘naughty’ character is what makes her a Bengal

I think that you not only have a typical bengal, you also have a typical cat!! All my cats have always knocked stuff off things. My Tonkinese loves to tap things off window sills and shelves.

I think it's just their way of getting attention.

Yep, you have a bengal. You can't leave glasses in most areas without expecting them to be knocked down, water, well, its going to go flying. Garbage - depending on what is in it (chicken for example) its going to be examined.

Bengals are a high maintenance breed. They're just worth it!
