Embarrassing confession On a hot summers night we went to a friends wedding and in the rush to get ready did not realise we had left an upstairs window just to say open (about 1cm). We live in an upside down house so our living room is upstairs.

Came home later to find an fully open window and no cat (Indy was about 8 months old at the time). Frantically called out to hear a miaow in the neighbours garden! The little bugger had opened the window, fallen out and then climbed a very tall fence we can only assume to get next door! It was about 11pm on a Saturday night so we couldn't take him to the vet there and then. He was certainly OK after his erm *cough* little adventure!

Needless to say in the summer months we catproofed any open windows...

I used to live in one of them upside down houses too

She has gone to bed, under the covers which is not abnormal for her during the day so I will see what she is like a bit later when she gets up.

She just seemed a little shaken and sorry for herself so hopefully she is ok.

Just means I can no longer dry clothes on the bannister

Did the window cat proofing come as a kit or did you have to make it yourself?

During the summer I like to have all my windows open when I am at home and will most definately need something like you have.

We got some the wire mesh from our local DIY/garden centre, it's sold as garden fencing.

Just used some wire cutters to shape it to the inside of window frame. As the windows are PVC frames we then put some screws in with large head to hold it inside the frame.

The window when closed is on it's catch. As it's upstairs we are OK with leaving it on catch all the time as we are confident no one can get in. We don't bother with downstairs as it's cooler anyway.

If you look closely you can see we cut a section that the handle fits through and it's actually 2 pieces of wire mesh sheet. The top piece is smaller and held to the main piece with plastic ties.
These things..

We had to snip the ends off the ties as Indy used to go nuts trying to climb it to chew them.

I miss the little bugger at times

Oh the only problems was you could only open the window as far as your hand could reach through the gap for the handle to pull it back again!

But then I found it fairly easy as I have long skinny hands and fingers.

My Delilah fell down the stairs from top to bottom when she was little. My stairs don't have any carpet at the moment so she took a bit of a battering. She was a little quiet afterwards and had a bit of a limp the following day so I took her to the vet for a check up. He said she would be fine (if a little shaken up) - he gave her an anti-inflammatory injection for the limp but apart from that she didn't need any treatment. She was back to normal within 24 hours. I would say just watch for any signs of injury or changed behaviour but she'll probably be none the worse (and none the wiser) for her tumble - they're much more resilient than we are.

Speaking of falls... My sister-in-law and I went shopping on Black Friday, and when we got home at 7am, we were showing off our purchases to the rest of the family. All of a sudden, we heard a thud and saw a streak of silver bolt away from us. It took me a few minutes to realize that Siddhartha, my silver spotted had tried to jump from a second floor balcony onto the ceiling fan! The fan was swinging wildly back and forth. Sid was no worse for wear, but he didn't go back upstairs for a long time after that.
