A friend of mine from another forum has just put a deposit down on a kitten, but it all sounds iffy to me. The kitten is only 4 weeks old but the breeders are letting her take him home on Xmas eve

This is what she said, I hope i'm wrong though but it does sound iffy to me:

HIS NAME IS TIGGER LOL, MY NIECES AND SISTERS NAMED HIM!

I SPENT LOADS OF TIME WITH HIM AND THE BREEDERS TODAY, WHAT A LOUD CHATTER HE HAS!!! HE WAS A LIL SHAKY, 4 WEEKS OLD YOU SEE, oops realised caps soz!!!

i met mum, dad and half brother plus all kittens.
what the breeder is offering as this is her queens second litter, which i agreed to, is we are having him early at xmas eve, resons being, with the last litter, she felt the new owners missed out on so much of them being kittens, growing developing playing learning and changing she wanted to give new owners the chance to take early also with reduced fee.

i thought about it for a while, and saw many diff opinions, but as long as he is eating, which he is showing interest in, and using litter tray, which he is he will be indoor cat too with long trips to park on harness when innoculated etc.

the breeders are lovely people, and really want you to enjoy them as much as possible at all stages, and after meeting them all today i was happy enough to leave a deposit.

so now its time to get posts/toys/food/appointments booked, bed, etc.

he is TICA registered, and will have full papers after he in neautered (sp) at roughly 6 mths.

hi, he is 300 pounds as i will have to pay for innoculations etc.

i saw mum, dad and mum's son who are all beautiful and very affectionate well looked after imo.

they dont seem like hugh breeders and maybe could be quite newish to this?? i really dont know.

they look all completely bengal, with the m on forehead etc, i didnt see papers (didnt ask).

my kitten is in gallery, kitten number 4 dob 9/11.

husband did say not long done website gallery thing

they only had mum dad son and new kittens.

they did say recomended time was 12-13 weeks, but felt new owners were missing out on so much of them growing and changing between 8 weeks and 13 weeks ???

I think there is another reason behind them rehoming him so young, it sounds like an excuse to me. If they want you to be able to see them changing and growing you should be allowed to visit the kitten you are purchasing as often as you like.
Maybe try and do some research on the breeder and their cats first?

It's an easy thing to do, look at a kitten and your heart melts. lady A is a newbie so hopefully you will all be gentle with her in your replies. Thanks MissFreya.

Hi
I firmly believe it is wrong to sell a kitten sooooo young, the poor baby can't be properly weaned, and would not have learned cat manners from its mum!
eight weeks is chancy 12 weeks is better,

I am not afraid to cause offence, the kitten is toooooooooo young and this is not good practise, (I would contact the RSPCA )I feel very strongly that this is so wrong.

I am sorry to say that no respectable and responsible breeder would let a kitten be rehomed at such a young age.

FOUR WEEKS???? This is abuse!!! I have never heard anything like this before. Surely your friend must have alarm bells ringing? Poor kitty
You have every right to be concerned Kim. I hope she takes some good advice.

This is totally and utterly wrong. Kittens need to stay with their mother and siblings until they are at least 13 weeks of age, one week past their second vaccinations. It is a very important time for kittens to be with their feline family. They are learning. It would be very traumatic to the kitten to be taken away from mum at such an early age. You may very well end up with a kitten that bites and scratches their human family as they have not had enough time to learn from their mother and siblings how to interact.

Letting kittens be rehomed before they have had their full set of vaccinations is morally wrong and, also, against the Code of Ethics for all registering bodies, GCCF, TICA, FIFe, etc.

Walk away from this. This is not a good breeder. You could be letting yourself in for a lot of heartache.

Kind regards

It sounds like you have already paid a deposit Lady A?

Would the breeder give this back if she went in complaining at the age?

Would it be better to fib and and say a family problem has come up and you cant afford/have said kitten now to get your deposit back?

I agree having a kitten at such a young age comes with risks.

Let us know what happens? I hope this doesn't cause you too much stress and worry

awww this is breaking my heart :(
i have paid a deposit, non returnable from what i gather
he will be like 7-8 weeks old when i get him, they did say if i cannot take him xmas eve then to let them know.
i have spent time with him today, they seem like a lovely couple, with lovely healthy kittens and mum and dad.
i did ask lots of questions via email before viewing my kitten, and she genuwinly seems to want me to have the pleasure of watching him grow as this is when they are at there cutest, agreed i am a newbie so its not nessicerily whats best for kitten???
what age do normal kittens leave their mums? isit just the bengal breed that insists on keeping them until 3 mths? im pretty sure my mum got her kitten from cpl at 8-10 wks.
also i dont have lots of money, and 100 pound lost could have gone towards a bengal i desperatly want. i dont know what to do
thanks xx

Awww hon, my heart aches for you it really truly does. Could you not come to some agreement that Kitty stays with mum till 13 wks? this is so important for your kitties health and mental wellbeing. There could be so many adverse affects in years to come.
Thinking of you
