I know a few of you have built your own enclosures. I am interested in seeing your photos, especialy enclosures where your cats can access through a Kitchen/lounge window. I'm thinking about springtime already Tiggz and Kimba go out sometimes but Saxon is one crazy cat so my thoughts are of having an enclosure built. Would also be interested in COST. Would really aprehciate your experiences.

Here is mine in two stages of completion. All that needs to be finished is the floor, door and roof.

Here's the window/balcony box I did within a couple of hours with closet wire shelving and zip ties:

This next one took a little longer and required some help holding pieces in place until tied together, but it was well worth it. The front two shelves can be opened like doors to get from the enclosure into the yard.


The cats absolutely love to sit outside on the grass. And now that they know they can, they are much more relaxed and don't try to force their way out every time I open the door.

(Binky had recently had surgery, hence the shaved neck and scar on the picture above. And yes, those feathers are dead Da-Birds. )

The best about this system is that it's really easy to put together and/or rearrange or expand on a whim. It's not the prettiest looking enclosure, but the cats clearly don't care.

Forgot to mention the costs... I think the window box was around $50 for shelves (I already had some) and material and the backyard enclosure was about $200 total. Looking out for wire shelving sales at the hardware store could probably reduce this.

We have also built a lovely enclosure for our boys to go out and have a play.
We have a small enclosure attached to the back of the house with a walkway through to thier large enclosure. The large enclosure is 40ft long by 12ft wide and is all grass as they love that, it has climbers and tunnels for them to play on and then they can also go through a tunnel into the inside play area aswell.
So they can go out of the hosue and up into whichever enclosure they want to play and can stay out in the inside area if they wish to aswell.

Oh price the big run was £1,000 thats price for just the run not the shed at the back which was £550, The smaller enclosure attached to the house was £150
