Hello everyone!
I hope you don't mind me posting here. I apologise for taking a liberty such as to ask for opinions rather than be able to completely join in with talk, but I am very curious! I don't own a purebreed Bengal, but after reading through this forum for a while and looking at pictures of your beautiful cats, I would love to have your advice, opinion and knowledge in regards to my kitten! Bit of a long story, but here it goes...
I acquired a kitten from a breeder in September. Jack was completely different to his brothers and sisters, while they were black and white, Jack is what I can only describe as like tiramisu! He's dark chocolate, coffee, and white with gold dust sprinkled on. I took it to mean, as his Mum is a long haired white cat with a splodge of tabby, that he's an unusual tabby. After a while I saw his coat develop, and it's unlike anything I've ever seen (and my family and I have owned cats for over 20 years!) and I began to do a little research. I'm studying animal care with a particular interest in cats, so I'm aware of breeds but not able to tell mixed breeds as yet! I realised, me and my slow mind, that his breeder also breeds 3/4 bengal kittens... and I thought, as he's so different from his siblings, that it's possible that his mother mated with the bengal Tom as well as a moggie. Cats are able to mate with many different toms to produce one litter, and I don't think the Tom is enclosed in a pen or anything else, so I think it may be possible.
Jack has a very active personality, with a wonderful ability to climb, scale and leap. He's very intelligent and often finds toys when I've put them away! He loves his food and will do almost anything to get it.. and he has some rather unusual sleeping positions. Sleeping on his back with his legs apart is his favourite! He's bonded very well with our black and white tuxedo cat Mary, and treats her like a Mother. He's quite a rough player but she can take it! His hind legs are longer so he packs quite a wallop while on his back!
Whether he is part bengal won't change anything, he's pampered too much and we would never pass him onto someone else, but it's the first time we've had a possible pedigree.
Here are a few photos of Jack and unusual parts of his coat. Also a picture I found of a kitten with a similar coat pattern. Call me obsessed...!
