So I have 2 very large litter boxes now with the 4 cats. It is working well I scoop three times per day and it doesn't smell at all. But the laundry room floor is covered in litter from their feet. Would putting a mat in front of the boxes help with this?

Mats help if your cats step onto them. This is harder to control with the open-topped rectangular trays. I have a covered tray and a mat outside the entrance stopped all the tracking, made a big difference for me. Definitely try it, your cats might prefer stepping onto the mat since it'll stop litter clinging to them.

i just ended up getting very used to sweeping & hoovering

We use covered in litter trays, and still get them kicking litter out. We use Worlds Best and when thats due to be changed it sort of turns powdery, so you can always tell which one has just been, when they jump straight up onto your black trousers and leave paw prints. I tend to sweep and hoover a couple of times a day to keep it down.

We used to get litter around the tray, although Max used to tap his paw on the edge as he was getting out. Sadly I never managed to film it or it would have been on Youtube!
