I agree. too many weirdos and dangers out there, however if I lived in a rural area I might think twice about letting them out.

We are building a cat run so Zak can get fresh air and we might extend it in the summer to cover the grass as well

I personally don't believe in letting animals roam. I think there are too many dangers out there such as cars, dogs, people who take cats and torture them, antifreeze, rat poisen and other toxins, diseases, wild animals, etc.
I know alot of people think cats need to hunt but I have had house cats all my life and as long as they had toys to play with and interacttion they all seemed happy enough to me. I guess I don't understand anyone wanting to take the risk with a pet they say they love.

Also, as a homeowner with dogs and cats I really don't want other peoples pets coming into my property. I spend lots of money at the vets to keep mine healthy and I don't want other stray pets using my yard for toilet and possibly bringing disease and germs that mine might catch.
My dog also like to bark at the cats running loose and we have quite a few around here so she is always barking....drives me nuts and I can't seem to get her to quit no matter what I do.
Anyhow, just my opinions.

Mine are house cats but they have got a run in the garden for fun and fresh air and they also go out on their walking jackets which they love.

I would worry too much if they went out alone and there are some sick, cruel people in this world. We are in a fairly quiet village but a lot of cats are going missing at the moment - my neighbour lost 2 6 month old kittens and one has just been found 15 miles away - the other little one is still missing.

Bengal Beauties

I made the decision to let Solomon out. i have 4 moggies that go out so before I has Solomon I already knew he would go outdoors.
At the moment though he only goes into the garden when i'm out there, or there abouts. As soon as I come inside he comes in. I'm not sure if that will change.

I do worry about him more than the moggies as he is so Hyper and when he gets excited he just runs. Although we live in a big town we live in a quiet no through road.

My two are housecats.

I too live on a main road, my friend from work who lives locally had their cat run over just this morning, luckily she lived but has a broken leg...

In addition a local bengal went 'missing' a few months ago - presumed stolen.

Ours go out on a lead when supervised (attached to washing line so they can run up and down the garden to their hearts content).

Our bengal goes out and about in our marina.....
no cars mind....never wanders far away...runs back every few moments to check we are still here...then off he goes again.
Many times, oops, if we leave the door open on the boat he's out all night....
Stands guard like a dog outside......

He does like his boats.....very proud....
A couple in france with a bengal did not have the same luck...
the cat was sreeming outside the boat on the deck on a lead.[very loud]
They had to 'force' the cat back inside the boat...not a pretty sight.
...........our bengal is very happy around boats...he loves it...
has his eye on the fish too.....
