de-clawing in the UK is against the law anyway, i personally dont use soft claws, i found if you buy enough for you cat to claw on they leave your furnature alone, if you find your cat going to claw at your furnature say no and remove the cat from it, and make sure you pet and praise your cat when he/she claws at their cat trees etc.

I just clip my cats claws, i have even managed to clip Hestia's too, although Zeus will take a bit longer.

Exactly the same thing as Michelle said happened with my new kitty!
She was being a little terror, playfully scratching me all the time, and digging her claws in hard when using me as a climbing post, and my housemate was nervous whenever she was around because of this (if it was just me I wouldn't mind), so I bought some softclaws off the internet.
As soon as they arrived, kitty suddenly learns how to sheathe her claws!

Now if only they made them to fit over her teeth....

Ohhh thanks for the information. I don't want a cat with purple claws either - but they do have clear ones so that's something!

It looks like a consensus that they don't hurt or annoy cats/kittens, but I was wondering as well if it would stop them gripping when climbing? Which would seem a bit unfair, especially for a Bengal!

For now it looks like I should be patient and try and address scratching behaviourally if it comes up. But you guys have reassured me that if its a major problem these won't harm my cat

I'm pretty new to cats and was worried about scratching on the leather couch etc. before I got those guys (1 kitten, 1 adult) but I have to say that nail clipping works just fine... if you provide scratching pads it's not that bad, in my experience anyway. They also love linen baskets so why not get one of those...

Nail clipping is ok as well, can be a struggle with kittens but our technique works wonders: one person holds the kitten and give him bits of food one at a time to divert his attention, while the other does the clipping...
