Hi -
Does anyone use one of those self-cleaning litter boxes, and if you have tried one, or have one, I'd like to hear your experience with it. Did your kitty (kitties) like it? Were they OK with the noise of it? I've heard that some cats don't like these type of litter boxes - that the noise scares them.

I'm thinking of getting one, but would like to hear from people who have them and like them, or those for whom it didn't work well.

Most of these litter boxes have a delay in actually doing the scooping. That time may be adjustable as well, so usually the kitty is far away from the litter box when it does its thing. Most of these are large boxes so make sure you have room for one. Always read the reviews (which 1/2 will be good and 1/2 will be bad). So, you obviously have to make up your own mind. I've always used a regular litter box and scoop it up myself.

I'm happy with the Litter Robot but it is pretty expensive.

I bought a refurbished Litter Robot because of the cost of a new one (gasp).

The refurbished unit was $360. They offer 6 monthly payments with only a $12 finance charge so that made it doable for me.

I have a friend who swears by it. I like fact that you can use ordinary kitchen bags to catch the scoopage.

The unit has an enormous footprint and *could* have squeezed into my downstairs bathroom but needed access to a plug and was not going to fit well. So I decided to put it in the hallway/front entry way outside the bathroom. I added a 30" x 30" by 36" tall bistro/pub table over it to catch incoming mail, keys etc.

It looks great. Now we are waiting for the cats to be more than just a bit curious about it.
