Hi everyone,

I have a 2 year old silver bengal and we have recently moved from an apartment to a house with a garden. In the Apartment he never went out and didn't seem to be bothered, however in the house he will sit at the patio doors wailing and growling very loudly. Because of this I decided to let him out as I feel it's what a cat should be able to do. I could hear him from inside the house growling and wailing for over 2 hours getting other cats to join in!

Being concerned about the noise and him getting hurt or hurting another cat we did manage to get him back inside but now I am worried about letting him out again. I don't think after letting him out once it is fair to not let him out again but the noise he was making really concerned me. Will he settle down if we keep letting him out? Since he has been back in the house he is growling more loudly than ever and more often. I am considering getting another cat to occupy him although he has always seemed happy enough on his own.

not something i've experienced as mine are strictly indoors unless on a harness or in an enclosure. now you're in a house with a garden, could you build a safe enclosure so he can go out but be secure at the same time?

Thanks for the reply, having a run in the garden was the ideal solution to letting him out but the garden is only small so it couldn't be that big so that's why we let him out to explore instead. I would love for him to be able to go out like other cats and now that I did and have kept him inside since then I feel like I'm being cruel.

I have two 4 month old kittens, they have never been outside but sit curiously at the window looking out, we built an enclosure, although at the minute it is small, we will build onto it next year. We feel that cats need fresh air, but we dont want to let ours roam as our other cats have done in the past. We have to lift them up onto the window ledge then they jump out themselves, they can get back in ok but havent figured out how to get out. They havent been very happy about it but today i placed a bowl of wet food out for them, (they normally have dry) and put them out onto the window ledge, we went out and came back home they were in their little den in the living room asleep, i went out to check the bowl. it was empty, they have been out again this afternoon and wouldnt come back in. they loved it.

I also find my two go hunting at night, Mitzy finds alsorts, boxes of staples, pens, paper, cd plastic covers, at the minute she is killing an empty Greggs paper bag. Its so funny, I dont know where she is finding all this stuff, Daisy sits and watches then takes on what Mitzy leaves...

Thanks for the reply, that is definatley the best solution I think, and like yrs we will put an enclosure behind the window as i think it'd be too costly to install a cat flap into the patio. Can I ask one thing though - is your house not freezing all the time or do you only open the window at certain times? I think Boo will want to go out at night as well as the day but I do wonder if the house will then be freezing?!?!

Your liitle ones will soon be jumping up with ease, Boo jumps on top of doors from the floor which still amazes me!

I don't like cats going out at night because of the dangers, cats are more curious and roam more. It's too risky I think to let a Bengal out alone but thats your choice.
