i find the best method is to distract them with a wand toy (something on a stick, like feathers or tinselly strands)...wave it above their heads but just out of reach & you'll distract them for a couple of seconds. i tend to just keep clicking away & sort out the photos afterwards.

it helps if you have one person distracting & another taking the piccies. you'll still end up with about 10 good photos out of 100 though!

if you have a good quality camera with a sports mode, you can get good action shots with toys too.

basically thats about it, i take around 20 to get a good one, you have to make sure you have a good camera and a fast shutter, i have hundreds of pics of my cats without heads as they are running out of the frame.

also it may be a suggestion to wait until they are sleepy and try to catch them then.

Great advice thanks. It does have a sports mode, it's a Panasonic Lumix, so it's a decent camera. I can also use the multi mode as well where it takes several at once, so I think I'll try that.

Really tempted to post a couple of photos of them but I don't want to until I've got them. Nothing should go wrong but I'm a natural pessimist!

Edit: Just noticed, it actually has a pet mode as well, and I can put in the pets date of birth, so it will imprint how old they are too.

It really is worth investing in a good camera. A lot of last years DSLR's are worth looking at when starting out as a beginner. The Canon Eos 300d is ideal but can go for around £250 (Bear in mind it cost about £750 on launch).
