I'm hoping for some guidance here. A few weeks ago, we had to send our 14 1/2 year old Samoyed, Kyenta, to her final resting place. We were gutted about it, but there was really no choice as she could no longer stand on her own nor to poop. She got stuck going down the stairs to our backyard, when we were not home. Our neighbours rescued her but it was not fair to her to have her stuck like that if no one was there to help her out.
A couple of weeks later, and I discovered that our Bengal, Quasar, was missing Kyenta as much as we were. He would sit at the back door at night, in the dark, waiting for Kyenta to be let in the house.
Well, it wasn't long before we decided on a new puppy. We have selected an Australian Shepherd who will come to live with us on November 16th.
The puppy will be confined to the kitchen and hallway until she is comfortable with our rather large house AND she is housebroken. Quasar will have free rein in the house and will be able to get into and out of the confinement zone.
I'm wondering if anyone has had the experience of introducing a high energy breed to their resident Bengal cat.
Is there anything we ought to be aware of? Has anyone had their cat attack the new puppy?
I'm not concerned for Quasar's welfare and he hasn't been an aggressive cat. He got along famously with Kyenta and doesn't show fear of dogs in general. He is much more upset if a cat invades his space.
Any advice you can share would be most appreciated.
Thank you, in advance.
