Cat repellent spray to keep them away from electronics?

I'm looking for a product that I can use to keep my kittens away from the power strip and cables for things like my tv and computer. I've seen those wire covers that are supposed to taste bitter, but I also have the power strips to worry about. Since they're still kittens they'll mouth/chew anything at least once but I don't want my babies getting a shock. My Fred, in particular, seems to love the texture of the wire outside material.

Have any of you tried to chat deterrent sprays on the market? How much success have you had with them? Any other ideas for keeping them away from these things? Right now I got an old quilt out and covered up everything as much as I can but a blanket on the floor just seems to make them want to nap there or play.

They make chew-resistant covers for the chords. Just Google it. Here is something I found from Amazon USA

The pet stores may carry something. I find it ironic there is a ferret in the picture. I guess they chew, too. If you have multiple chords, they may make something for them as well. I don't know what it is with cats and chords. Ours has never touched any cords, but we got him when he was 6 years old. I don't know what he did as a kitten.

I did order a spray that's iffy some say it works some say it doesn't. I'll go with the cord covers if I have too but I'm also trying to keep them away from the power strips and there aren't covers for those. Twice now one of them has wiggled behind the TV stand where I have a power strip with TV, Sound bar, DVD player, cable box, And my wifi modem plugged in and one of the girls stepped on the on/off switch on the power strip itself. There might not be any help for that. For the power strip where I have my computer, I've laid a blanket over that one but that seems to attract them to the area instead :rolleyes:

How are they doing with the wires? Have you tried training them not to bite or play with them? Possibly the spray can thats motion activated to scare them away from that are could work!!

I'm bringing home 2 babies in a few weeks, anything you 'didnt think of" when you thought of everything as far as bengal proofing? I'd like to teach them how to live with pictures and small decor around the house. Any tips?

Be very careful with the power strips. I would NOT be covering them due to a possible fire hazard is something sparks. That being said, I have a power strip in my bengal's enclosure and I lay it on its side so the plugs are not showing upward. See if the helps. The power switch should be on the side, too. Your babies will grow and be unable to fit back behind equipment -- hopefully at some point. :biggrin:

I have no idea what the attraction is for them. They do make chew toys for cats! And maybe they look like wires but aren't connected electronically to anything. The cat repellent spray -- I've tried repellents with other cats -- not one has worked! But, maybe one will for you.

The spray is working great for me. It's an all natural spray made with citrus oils and the cats don't like the smell of citrus. I sprayed a couple places and the cats don't go over there. I don't know if they'll get used to the smell or how often I'll have to spray it, but right now it's working!

Glad it is working for you. We used to have a problem with a neighbor's cat coming around and antagonizing our bengal when he was in his enclosure. We put citrus peels outside where he would lay -- I would look out the window and there he was, laying right on the peels! Finally, those people moved away and took their cat.

I rubbed vegetable oil and lemon juice on cables and it seems to have done the trick. One of mine is a particular cable chewer and it's put him right off.
