Hi there,

I'll be getting a lovely Bengal boy at the end of July (can't wait!). As I'm working during the day I was thinking of getting 2 kittens, but as it turns out we've been cat-sitting my partner's old cat (7 yr old moggy) for a week, and now wondering, should we keep her with us? Will she cope when the Bengal arrives?
She's been living with a Springer spaniel for the past 2 years and although it was hard to her at first they got on fine in the end - or rather, the dog learnt to leave her alone. As she got annoyed with the puppy wanting to play, I'm just not sure she'll enjoy going through that again! Or maybe she will be more tolerant as she's experienced a similar situation before?
It just seems cruel to keep her here for 3 months then bring her back to her old home in case it doesn't work out... After a few hours' sulking she settled fine with us and getting more attention than in her house, where nobody is really into cats.
Option 2 is to bring her back to her own home, and get 2 kittens from the breeder.
I just can't decide! Any thoughts?

hello :D
I would personally take in the moggy firstly...
its in a place where 'no one is into cats'... what a miserable life the catling has.... not much care and attention is no fun...
im sure in time the kitten and cat can get along fine.. ill take about a month of sulking from the moggy at first but im sure they will have fun together once theyre used to one another.. :D
after all 7 yrs old is not old for a moggy... they still have another ten years or so of good living in them...
let us know what you decide.. :D

I do so agree; the moggie has just got to come first. Poor thing has been in an un-cat house, then moved on to you where it seems to have settled. Please dont send it back again.

Regards

I brought Ziggy our bengal kitten into the house with my two older moggies (9 and 10) and after a couple of days hissing and then ignoring each other it settled down. Ziggy has livened the old pair up a bit and in turn they keep him in check when his behaviour is completely off the scale!

I think you should keep your moggie as she deserves a nice home with you

Thanks for all the advice! I'm very tempted to do that if there's a chance they will get on, which there seems to be... Now it's just a question of finding the right words to tell the mother-in-law :)

Well as it turns out we brought the Madame back to her home and saw her settle back home within minutes... After visiting her a couple of times I realise that she is happier in her own environment so we are getting 2 kittens. The prospect of us taking her has made her "family" realise how much they do like her (or maybe it's me who realised that), she also likes spending most of the day in the garden and we agreed it wouldnt be fair to confine her to an appartment... so double trouble is awaiting us next month!
