Yep, need the vet for this one. Nothing to worry about until you see them.

No real result. My vet fine needled the lump and a black substance came out. She then put it on some slides and said she would call me later today. She just called to say there are no cells consistent with melanoma in the slide, and she does think it might be cystic, but that she will send it away to be on the safe side as she has never seen something like this before. I'm terrified and will not get results for another week.

Our prayers are with you - glad to hear it's unlikely to be melanoma as that's was the first thought when you said black substance.

Please let us know when you hear the results.

Really? She said she looked at it under the slides and that the cells didn't seem consistent with melanoma. She said she thinks it's cystic but is sending it off to be on the safe side. I'm literally out of my mind with worry, Toby is only two next month

First of all, please calm down! I know it is easier said than done, but there really is nothing that you can do about it. I find it odd that your vet would have never seen something like this before -- however, having the sample sent out to be better analyzed is exactly what the vet should have done. A week may seem like eternity, but at least you should know something for sure. Humans and cats can get cysts that are not dangerous. Hang in there ...........

Is Toby an 'only' cat? Because Thomas gets this type of lump all the time thanks to Cutie's tiny claws digging into him. I always find chunks of his fur lying around too.

A cyst isn't too big a deal - hope that the vets get it sorted and you and he can relax.

If you want to be reassured there are some videos on youtube of people getting cysts removed - it is a very simple procedure ( don't watch the videos over dinner though ! )
