Hi all,

We have our bengal kitten called Bella who is 11 weeks old, we got her when she was 9 weeks so she has been with us for nearly 3 weeks. She has settled in very quickly, enjoys playtime then falls asleep very quick after her crazy hyper bursts!...

She has been very good at night, we have kept her in the kitchen as surprisingly it is kitten proof, however we have started to let her explore upstairs and loves our bedroom. She get sooo hyper on the bed though, i want to get her aclimatised to the bed but dont seem to be having any sucess at the moment. Last night, she finally settled on it but literally stared at me for 10 minutes while i was trying to read, which i found intimidating  she looks like she is in hunting mode all the time and i worry if we turn the light off, so would attack my head in the dark lol. Not sure if i like when she hunts me???!

Any advice? :)

Thanks
Lucy

Lol... I'm sure your kitty will just hunt your toes and knees under the duvet... That and head bumps at four in the morning :-)

Yea, you are going to get beaten up by your kitten no matter what

I let my cats sleep in my bedroom, wherever they wanted, starting pretty early. The bengals did attack toes and feet, probably because a cat can't really resist something that rustles under a hiding spot like the blankets. That lasted probably 4 months or so. When she does that, just let her know that it's not acceptable (put her out, etc). More important though, you need to stay very disciplined about not letting her wake you up and get food, play, or attention. The moment your cat learns that she can do something (like screech at you) that results in getting attention or food on-demand, they will repeat that behavior over and over. That's actually the biggest danger when you first start having your cat sleep in the bedroom. Make sure that the precedents that you establish now are the ones you are going to be able to live with in the future!

One tactic is to have an exhausting playtime right before bed. You would need to tire your cat out though, otherwise you are just revving their engine right before you turn in for bed, and that's sure not what you want!

You have a very high-energy bengal kitten! Things will get better with time and Bella will love sleeping with you. I can easily ignore a staring kitty! You need to learn. . However, heavy play time before bed may wear her out and you can at least fall asleep. Know that any movement under the covers signifies prey. Even my 9-year old bengal will pounce on my feet when I'm moving them under the covers.
