I'm even later to the party than Sherry.

You've been lucky - no harm done - and hopefully your heart rate is getting back down to somewhere near normal now.

Take a moment, give Nala a hug, then work out a plan for *bengal* kitten proofing your home and ensuring that the cleaner is on board for keeping your kittens inside.

A little story- I live in an apartment, I planned, measured and checked, bought a load of window catches and then realised that they wouldn't hold against an adult cat. I started again with different catches, measured, checked, measured again and fitted them. One night I couldn't find Ada anywhere. Then I went into the kitchen - she was jumping up at the waist-high window on a narrow balcony, 12 floors up to get my attention. Kittens really can get through the smallest of gaps.

My routine for "cleaning day" (I have a maid service come every 4 weeks):

* set my cats up in my walk-in closet. Cat beds, climbing poles, food, water, litterbox.
* paste a LARGE sign to the door of the closet: "CATS INSIDE... DO NOT ENTER"
* call the maid service and make sure they have it in their daily notes that I am keeping my cats in the closet and not to enter

I also frequently choose that day to work from home (when I can), tele-commuting into the work network.

OMG what a scary experience but I am so glad it had a happy ending!!!

We have an access panel for the AC vents upstairs. Somehow Archer had knocked that off and crawled in there. About half a foot in is a big hole that dropped straight down.
Oh I just remember the panic of hearing his meows and not knowing how to get to him. Downstairs you could hear the mews coming out of the vents. I was panicking, tearing off all the vent covers with no luck, Russ hammered a hole into one of the walls (of course wrong one) and then finally found another people size access in the garage and got him out!!!
Such a terrifying feeling not knowing how to get to him though! I imagine you had the same feelings

Our little monsters can manage to find the least little flaw in our bengal-proofing! Scary to have to put holes in your walls or ceilings to get a little one out. Raiden has taken to climbing up on a ladder we have laying against the wall in the kitchen and now I'm terrified every time we have the steps down to our attic that he will climb up there. Previously, he was not interested.
